Melilla has received, until March 2023, 40 million euros from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) through transfers in Sectoral Conference, agreements, subsidies and direct concessions agreed with the local government.
The Government Delegate, Sabrina Moh, gave the data this morning in a public appearance, in which she explained that there are already more than 160 beneficiary projects with more than 23 million euros of PRTR funding executed by agencies of the General Administration of the State.
As recalled by the highest representative of the National Executive in our city, the European Council approved in 2020 the creation of the NextGenerationEU program, “the largest economic stimulus instrument ever financed by the European Union, in response to the crisis caused by the coronavirus, with an unprecedented investment of 750 billion euros”.
“Spain and specifically President Pedro Sánchez, played a decisive role in the creation and negotiation of these funds that are being very beneficial for our country and our city,” said Moh, who recalled that as a mechanism to receive and manage these funds, the Spanish Government created the Recovery Plan.
“The Recovery Plan is our country’s greatest economic opportunity since joining the European Union,” said Moh, who assured that these funds “will lead Melilla and the whole of Spain to become greener, more digital and more feminist.”
“This Plan will contribute to greater social and territorial cohesion, reducing inequalities,” he said, and assured that “it is a tool to make Melilla and Spain a prosperous territory, productive and of opportunities.”
Growth and productivity
“Spain has worked intensively on this plan that is allowing us to increase productivity and potential growth, moving towards a green, digital, inclusive Spain, with greater social and territorial cohesion and without gender gaps,” he added.
In fact, the Plan is articulated in a set of investments to be made in its entirety between 2021 and 2023 and in an ambitious program of structural and legislative reforms aimed at addressing the main challenges of our country.
In this regard, he referred to the 120 SMEs benefiting from the support programs for this type of companies thanks to the Digital Kit or the fact that the Public Service of State Employment (SEPE) is already implementing projects for the employability and insertion of certain vulnerable groups and also directed specifically to women with about 3 million euros.
The Delegate also referred to the program ‘First Professional Experience in Public Administrations’ with which “we are promoting the incorporation of our young people into the labor market”.
This programme aims to recruit young people up to 30 years of age in the form of a training contract for the acquisition of professional practice from 10 to 12 months full-time to offer professional experience in the field of public administration and, thanks to it, a hundred young people from Melilla go to work in the General Administration of the State. Of these, 13 in the Government Delegation itself.
In addition, 14 education centers are already benefiting from PROA+ support projects, with more than 173,000 euros of grant, with the objective of reducing school dropout rates through support and guidance to students in situations of educational vulnerability.
In the area of Health, 16 million euros have been allocated for the equipment of the new University Hospital financed with the funds of the Recovery Plan. But, in addition, in the area of Tourism, Melilla has already received 3 million euros for projects to improve tourism sustainability.
