“The National Police Force has been configured as an indispensable institution for Spanish democracy.” The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, on the occasion of the commemoration of the 199th anniversary of the National Police, has highlighted the role that the women and men of this body have developed during all this time.
“The National Police is an institution that has written many pages in the book of history, your past is one of our greatest treasures and, therefore, it must be preserved, remembered and valued,” he said.
Moh has made it clear that the celebration of the anniversary of an indispensable institution such as the National Police “is a pride for all citizens” and, aware of this, has announced that the Government of Spain has declared this event, on the occasion of the bicentenary, of exceptional public interest and has created an interministerial commission aimed at coordinating and promoting all activities aimed at celebrating this historic anniversary “with all the greatness and relevance that the institution deserves”.
In her speech, the Delegate pointed out that the National Police is a body composed of more than 70,000 women and men “who not only wear your uniform with pride but honor it with your daily work.” For this reason, he has asserted that they are synonymous with professionalism, effort and commitment but also with empathy and closeness, constancy and dedication.
The Delegate has defined the institution as “a body of highly qualified and solid principles that make you continue to earn the trust of the citizens and that every year more people will want to wear your uniform to serve our country.”
For this reason, it has encouraged them to continue promoting and persevering in their spirit of vocation of public service and to continue with the actions they carry out on a daily basis “since your work has contributed to the construction of the constitutional Spain in which we live, by ensuring that we can freely exercise the rights and enjoy the freedoms set forth in our Constitution and that they gain full meaning thanks to your work”.
The Delegate congratulated them on the achievements “since your mission is not easy” and thanked them for the work done “because your work deserves to be recognized”.
“You can proudly claim what you are and what you do and I encourage you to continue in this same line because every year that we are adding up is another sign that you continue to meet your objectives,” he said.
Modern body
The highest representative of the Spanish Government in our city has highlighted the past of the body but has also had words for the future. “In a changing world such as the one in which we live and the great evolution that we have developed as a society over these almost 2 centuries, you have advanced according to your essence and without losing your original spirit,” he said.
Thus, it has highlighted that they have been able to respond to the different scenarios that have been arising such as catastrophes, health crises, war conflicts or climate change, you have adapted to the digital transformation, and it has stressed that the Police has resolved with professionalism “all the challenges that you have had to face”.
The Delegate referred to the implementation of a “profound transformation process” to turn this institution into a more modern and innovative body “and with the strategic vision that your profile demands”.
Something that is materializing through the implementation of three fundamental lines of action such as the increase of personnel, the increase of material resources and a training according to the new times. In this last point he stopped to mention the recent launch of the University Center of the National Police, “which has meant the beginning of a new stage in which the body will be nourished by agents still, if possible, better trained and, therefore, with greater preventive and operational capacity to offer security and effectiveness in the fight against any type of crime.”
Woman's role
Sabrina Moh took advantage of her speech and made a special mention of the role of women in the National Police, even more so when in September it will be 44 years since her incorporation into this body.
“Melilla has 63 women in the Superior Headquarters and there are already more than 11,000 women police officers throughout the country, but we must continue to make progress in this matter,” he said.
Therefore, he added, the Ministry of the Interior will continue to carry out initiatives that promote real and effective equality between women and men, both in terms of numbers of personnel and in positions occupied in all areas of work, including those with greater responsibility.
The Delegate, in her address, has had a few words of remembrance for all those policemen who have lost their lives during these almost 200 years of the institution's life. “May our admiration and respect, along with all our affection, reach their relatives and loved ones,” he said.
He also conveyed his recognition to the two inspectors, the officer and the four agents who were recognized at today’s event on the occasion of their retirement. “To all, my thanks for the work done during all these years and my best wishes in this new stage that you have begun,” he said.
Moh has made a very special mention to all the family and friends who accompany the agents “in this exciting work”. “You are a fundamental pillar and you will always occupy a special and prominent place on every page of this exciting story,” he said.
