The Education Spokeswoman of the Socialist Parliamentary Group in Congress, María Luz Martínez Seijo, has highlighted the effective lowering of the ratio at all educational levels in Melilla thanks to the investments of the Government of Pedro Sánchez.
“Making an effective reduction in the ratio at all stages requires a significant economic investment for the contract of new professionals and it must be noted that 300 new teachers have been incorporated into the classrooms of the city of Melilla, which have allowed a reduction in the ratio by almost 3 students per classroom at all educational levels,” he stressed.
An increase in staff that translates into more than 9 million euros in salaries that, together with the stabilization processes promoted by the Government of Spain, “is going to mean that more than 300 teachers are going to be able to take a place definitively, which will allow not only to lower the ratio but also to improve the educational quality thanks to much more stable teaching staff.”
The Congresswoman, who has highlighted the Education Law and the Vocational Training Law (FP), has referred to the improvement of conditions for students and the most innovative spaces, which allow “much more innovative methodologies, which will allow that competential learning in the classrooms, new working methods with students so that they are prepared for what awaits them in society, in the work environments.”
Connection to the work environment
In his speech to the media, Martínez Seijo referred to the impulse that the Executive of Sánchez is giving to the FP in Melilla, where 429 new places of new training cycles have been created, “adapted to these new productive environments, very connected with the needs that Melilla companies are demanding of the educational system.”
These 429 places “will allow more opportunities for the young people of Melilla, with more training, more training and, of course, more opportunities to face the work environment”, he said, and has defended the skill of quality in training, entrepreneurship, innovation and high technology that has been given “because the FP does not simply cosiste in the creation of places”, he argued.
The Spokeswoman for Education has also addressed the accreditation of competences for the adult population, given that one of the objectives of the Government of Spain is to provide more than three million accreditations to the adult population.
Something that also moves to Melilla, “all the people who have not had the possibility to accredit their professional skills in the past will now see that possibility to accredit them and, therefore, more opportunities for the work environment,” he said.
In turn, it has pointed out the 7 entrepreneurship classrooms that have been created in the last 2 years in Melilla to promote entrepreneurship and connect professional training with the business world and with the work environment and the 4 applied technology classrooms that have been created in the Professional Training centers of the city, financed by the Government of Spain
In her public appearance, María Luz Martínez Seijo recalled that one of the priorities of the Government is equity in the system, which is why the resources for attention to diversity in the classrooms have also been increased. Thus, specific classrooms have also been created for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and work continues in increasingly inclusive environments.
Historic Scholarship Record
The Speaker of Education of the Socialist Parliamentary Group in Congress, finally, has dedicated a chapter to scholarships and study grants, due to the fact that it has achieved “the historic record” in this matter.
“The budget left by the PP Government in scholarships and grants has more than doubled,” he explained, given that in 2018 the amount for this purpose was 1.5 billion euros, while, to date, once the General State Budgets of 2023 were approved, “we have almost 2,600 million euros”.
“Nothing more and nothing less than an increase of 1 billion euros to guarantee equal opportunities”, he stressed. And, among those resources, no more than 3,600 young people from the city of Melilla will benefit, he added.
