Social Security has paid in Madrid 1,304,568 pensions on the payroll August, which amounted to 2,066 million this month. In August, it has been reached 1,304,568 benefits in the various pension categories (retirement, permanent disability, widowhood, orphanhood and family benefits). Retirement pensions, which extend to 893,451 retired workers; permanent incapacity pensions, which reach 98,968 citizens; widowhood, which reaches 274,248 people; orphanhood, which covers 35,168 orphans and family benefits, 2,733 benefits for those who have lived with the deceased person for at least two years and have no means of living.
Average pensions
The average pension of the Social Security system in Madrid reaches 1,583,98 above the national average by almost 13%. This difference may possibly result from the concentration in the capital of industry and other economic and strategic sectors, as well as from the administration itself.
In fact, retirement pensions, as such, amount on average in the Community to 1,797.6 euros: a figure that implies a disbursement of 1,606 millions of payroll from the SS coffers in the month of August with an average retirement age of 74.43.
For its part, permanent disability pensions reach 98,968 workers in Madrid with an average age of 56.3 years, with an average pension of 1,357.42.
Widow’s pensions, with a higher average age, reach 274,248 beneficiaries in the region, with an average pension of 1,103.9 euros and an average age of 79.2.
Orphan’s pensions reach 35,168 beneficiaries, with an average amount of 587 euros. Pensions that are extended to persons under 21 years of age or older who are incapacitated to a degree of permanent absolute incapacity or great incapacity and up to 25 years to persons over 21 years of age and under 25 years of age, when they do not perform work for themselves or others or, if they do so and the income is lower than the minimum wage. In the event that the orphan continues to study and reaches the age of 25 during the course, he/she will continue charging until the first day of the month immediately after the start of the next course.
Nationwide data for September
Social Security has paid 10,547,417 pensions to more than 9.5 million people in the September payroll, which amounts to 14,498.2 million euros this September.
In September, almost 6.8 million retirement pensions and more than 2.3 million widow’s pensions from the Social Security System, 1.1 million permanent disability pensions, 335,900 orphans and 46,985 family pensions were registered.
Average pensions
The average pension of the Social Security system is 1,374.6 euros this month, 4.6% more than in the same month of the previous year. This average includes the amount of the different types of pension (retirement, permanent disability, widowhood, orphanhood and in favour of family members). The average retirement pension, which receives more than two-thirds of the total number of pensioners, is 1,576.1 euros per month, 4.5% more than in September 2025.
By system, the average retirement pension of the General System is 1,734.7 euros per month, while in the Special System of Self-Employed Persons it is 1,062.8 euros. In Coal Mining, the average pension amount is 3,005.7 euros, and 1,741.2 euros in the Regime of the Sea. The monthly amount of new retirement increases in the system amounted to 1,711.4 euros on average, according to the latest available data, which are from August. As for the average widow’s pension, in July it reached 976.3 euros per month.
