The number of unemployed people registered in the offices of the public employment services of the Community of Madrid has increased by 6,801 people during the month of August, 2.5% more than the previous month to reach the global figure of 280,512 unemployed people.
This upward trend has been replicated throughout the country, with increases in the 17 autonomous communities during the last month. In year-on-year terms, unemployment in the region has increased by 422 people, which represents a slight increase of 0.15%.
Of the total number of unemployed in the Community of Madrid, 40.24% (112,885) are men and 59.76% (167,627) are women. By sector, the largest number of unemployed registered are Services (227,631) and Construction (17,197). For its part, Industry has 14,568 unemployed people and Agriculture has 1,634. On the other hand, 19,482 unemployed people come from the previous unemployed group.
As for the unemployment among foreigners in the Community of Madrid, it stood at 53,127 people in August, which translates into 2,597 unemployed more than the previous month, an increase of 5.14%. Of the total, 16,435 come from EU countries and 36,692 from non-EU countries.

In the country as a whole, the number of unemployed persons registered at the State Public Employment Service (SEPE) offices, at the end of August, has increased by 44,419 persons in relation to the previous month (1.92%). Total registered unemployment stands at 2,355,918, below the barrier of 2.4 million. It is its lowest level in a month of August since 2007, in the run-up to the financial crisis. As of August 2025, unemployment has fallen by 70,593 people (-2.91%).
By economic sectors with respect to the month of July, the registered unemployment fell in Agriculture by 912 people (-1.30%). It increases in the Services sectors by 28,563 people (1.71%), in Construction by 4,669 people (2.89%), Industry by 3,731 people (2.10%) and among the No Previous Job collective it increases by 8,368 people (3.56%).
The registered unemployment among women increased by 22,741 women (1.63%) in relation to the month of July and stood at a total of 1,418,757, its lowest level in a month of August since 2008.
The registered unemployment falls in the autonomous city of Ceuta by 148 people. It increases in the other autonomous communities with Catalonia (14,594), Community of Madrid (6,881) and Comunitat Valenciana (5,847) at the head.
The total number of contracts registered during the month of August has been 1,144,827. Of these, 440,274 work contracts are of an indefinite nature, representing 38.46% of all new contracts.
The total number of beneficiaries existing at the end of July was 1,857,263. The coverage of the unemployment protection system during the month of July 2026 has been 86.75%.
The average monthly investment per beneficiary person, not including the agricultural subsidy of Andalusia and Extremadura, in the month of July 2026 has been 1,159 euros, which means an increase over the same month of the previous year of 36.8 euros (3.3%). The total investment in benefits in the month of July 2026 amounted to 2,115.76 million euros
