Agents of the National Police have established an operation against the trafficking of human beings for the purpose of sexual exploitation in a housing block in the district of Arganzuela. At the end of October, the inspection of a five-storey building was carried out, to which many customers came to benefit from the prostitution that was exercised in the apartments. The main objective of the design of these operations is the detection of possible victims or those responsible for human trafficking. In this case, agents of the Brigade of Foreigners and Borders, of the Police Intervention Unit, Air Media Unit, Canine Guides and workers of the Labour and Social Security Inspectorate of Madrid participated in the same.
For the delegate of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín, this operation reflects “the entire commitment of the National Police, the Security Forces and the Government of Spain” in the fight against human trafficking, which translates in the Community of Madrid into concrete data: from 7 operations in 2024 to 21 so far in 2025; from 37 arrests to 64; and 130% more victims released this year.
However, Francisco Martín insisted on not falling into conformism and said that the fight against the mafias that traffic in human beings “is going to intensify”.
Timers in the rooms to control their services
Some of the women involved in prostitution in these apartments had a timer installed on their bedroom door, which was used to control the length of their services. They also monitored their movements with remote video cameras located at the entrance to the common areas.
Inspections in the premises surrounding the building
For the same purpose, the agents carried out seven checks in establishments on the same street, which could have some kind of relationship with the activities that took place in the inspected community.
The device carried out culminated in the identification of 140 people, resulting in 16 detainees, six clients and the remaining ten women who managed these apartments, all of them for violation of the Aliens Act.
With the trafficking there is no deal
The National Police emphasizes that the most important way to be able to help the victims of this crime is to bring the fact to the attention of the authorities, stressing that any person who knows or suffers from a situation of this nature denounces it through the telephone 900 10 50 90, the email trata@policia.es as well as the usual forms of contact with the National Police through the emergency telephone 091 or in any police unit.
