The number of people registered as job seekers in the Community of Madrid has been reduced by 7923 people, according to the data of the month of May offered by the SEPE, becoming the Community where it has been most reduced in absolute terms.
Currently, in Madrid there are 298,211 people registered as claimants, of which it should be noted that 70960 are employed and 36156 are with limited availability and without employment with a specific type of demand (teleworking, abroad…) This reduction represents 2.74% compared to the previous month, expanding the percentage to 4% in a year-on-year comparison.
In the last year, compared to May 2024, there were 11,738 fewer unemployed in the region of Madrid, which represents a year-on-year decrease of 4.01%.
As for the foreign job seekers, there are 50,281 people, most of them non-EU (65.4%); of all of them, 2,433 found employment in the month of May, which means a reduction of 4.62 percentage points that is extended to 5.24 if we establish it in year-on-year terms.
Registered unemployment by sex and age
Of the total number of people registered as complainants, more than half are women, 59.54%. Interestingly, among those under 25 years old, the

Unemployment is reduced in all sectors

The previous unemployed group shows that 65.5% of these claimants are women; of these, the majority are women over 44 years of age and between 30 and 44 years of age; while in men the age group with the most unemployed claimants is between 20 and 24 years of age and those under 20 years of age.
Contracts performed
In the Community of Madrid, a total of 170,235 contracts were signed, of which 78,315 were indefinite, which makes it the Community that has signed the most indefinite behind Catalonia. The age range in which most contracts were signed was between the ages of 25-44, although it was also the age range in which most temporary contracts were signed, although in percentage much lower. Most of these temporary contracts occurred in the services sector due to production circumstances.
Performance
In the Madrid Community, 167,769 applications for benefits were submitted during the month of April, which represents 11.07% of the benefits requested nationwide; most of them are contributory, with an average period of recognition of three and a half days.
Although the number of benefits has been reduced, there has been an increase in spending on them for greater social coverage.
As for the data of affiliation to Social Security that have also been known today, the Community of Madrid stands out with 95,757 affiliates more than last year, being one of the Communities where affiliation grows most in year-on-year terms behind the Valencian Community and the Canary Islands.
