- This is Commissioner Martín Sánchez Sánchez, whose last destination has been CGPJ-UDEF, a unit attached to the Office of the Public Prosecutor against Corruption and Organized Crime.
- In December, the new commissioners took office in Alcobendas-San Sebastián de los Reyes, Parla and Coslada–San Fernando de Henares.
- In the third quarter of 2024, the crime rate in Leganés stood at 59.5, which means 5 tenths less than in 2023.
The delegate of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín, today presided over the inauguration of the new head of the local National Police Station of Leganés, Commissioner Martín Sánchez Sánchez.
The event was attended by, among other authorities, the mayor of Leganés, Miguel Ángel Recuenco; the superior head of the National Police in Madrid, Javier María Galván Ruiz; institutional representatives and business and civil representatives of the town.
Francisco Martín wanted to highlight that the inauguration of the new commissioner “marks the beginning of a new stage for the National Police in this city, and also strengthens our collective commitment to security, justice and coexistence in Leganés”.
He also took the opportunity to thank “the often discreet but always essential daily work” of the National Police, which “guarantees not only the physical safety of our streets, but also the protection of the rights and freedoms that we all share”, and its role “alongside citizens in the most difficult moments to protect the most vulnerable, guarantee equality before the law and always act with professionalism, empathy and respect towards those who trust them”.
In this sense, he added that “coexistence, social justice and the well-being of all neighbors are only possible if the laws are respected, which are “the pillar on which coexistence is based” and, therefore, must be respected “by all, without exceptions”.
Compliance that is enforceable not only for citizens, but also for the institutions. “Public institutions have a crucial role to play in ensuring that standards are applied fairly and equitably. It is essential that local and regional administrations always act with the same respect and commitment to the law that we demand of our fellow citizens,” he stressed.
Relay in front of several local police stations
This inauguration in Leganés joins the relays carried out in December at the local police stations of the National Police of Alcobendas-San Sebastián de los Reyes, Parla and Coscado San Fernando de Henares by the commissioners Roberto González De Julián, Miguel Ángel Benito Ferreras and David Molano Margallo, respectively.
Curriculum review of the new commissioner
Commissioner Martín Sánchez Sánchez joined the National Police in 1997. He has served as a professor at the Center for Senior Police Studies and his last destination has been CGPJ-UDEF, a unit attached to the Office of the Public Prosecutor against Corruption and Organized Crime.
Good security data
The government delegate also highlighted the good crime data of Leganés, whose average is below the average of the Community of Madrid by 12 points. “When the data for the third quarter of 2024 were closed, the crime rate stood at 59.5. This figure is 5 tenths lower than in 2023, which stood at 60. This data is a consolidation of good data, as has been observed since 2012”, he explained.
In this regard, he reiterated that there are no significant variations in a crime rate since 2013, which means “11 years of crime stability, which is a success for all.”
This is also helped by the fact that the year 2024 will end with the historic maximum number of ESF troops in the region. “More than 21,000 men and women who, from their professionalism, continuously increase police effectiveness and provide citizens with increasing security, always in the service of freedom and coexistence,” he said.
