The workers of the Delegation of the Government, headed by the Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo, and the delegate of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín, have observed a minute of silence as a sign of revulsion, rejection and condemnation before the latest murder for alleged gender violence of Rosario, a 32-year-old woman, in Mallorca, on December 10.
To these have been added the delegate of the Government against Gender Violence, Carmen Martínez; representatives of the FCSE; the spokeswoman of the PSOE in the City of Madrid, Reyes Maroto; the president of the FRAVM, Jorge Nacarino; the Head of Equality of CCOO Madrid or of the FAPA Giner de los Ríos, among others.
Once again, this minute of silence has been held simultaneously in all the delegations and subdelegations of Spain within the framework of the new “Protocol of condemnation and revulsion against murders due to gender violence” that aims to offer a joint institutional response to any murder caused by gender violence and vicarious violence, as well as support and solidarity with the victims, their relatives, and people close to them.
On this occasion, the person in charge of the subsequent reading of the institutional declaration of condemnation was the head of the Coordination Unit against Violence against Women, Eva Corrales, who recalled that, with this murder, there are 44 women killed in 2024 by their partners or ex-partners and 34 minor creatures that have been orphaned. In addition, 9 boys and girls have been killed by their parents or by the partners or ex-partners of their mothers to cause maximum pain to them.
Since 2003, 1,289 women have already been killed for gender-based violence. Since 2013, 62 children have been killed for gender-based violence against their mothers and 467 children have been orphaned by gender-based violence in Spain.
Finally, the statement reviewed all the communication methods available to victims, such as 016, online consultations through the email 016-online@igualdad.gob.es, the WhatsApp channel on the number 600 000 016 and online chat, accessible from the website violenciagenero.igualdad.gob.es, operate 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
