The Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo, accompanied by the delegate of the Government, Francisco Martín, has led the act of protest for the murder of a woman in the Sevillian town of Estepa last Saturday, November 23, in which a man killed his wife of 46 years and then took his life.
In addition, a second murder of a 15-year-old girl by her ex-boyfriend in the Alicante town of Orihuela last Sunday is also under investigation as a possible case of gender violence.
This minute of silence, to which all the workers of the Delegation have been summoned, takes place within the framework of the new “Protocol of condemnation and revulsion against murders for gender violence” common to all the autonomous communities, which aims to offer a joint institutional response of revulsion, rejection and condemnation against any murder produced by gender violence, as well as of support and solidarity with the victims, their families, and people close to them.
The delegate of the Government has been in charge of reading the institutional statement with which the Ministry of Equality, together with the delegations and subdelegations of the Government of Spain throughout the territory, want to convey its strongest condemnation for the murder by gender violence of Celeste, in the province of Seville, last Saturday, November 23, 2024 and reiterate their heartfelt condolences to their relatives and friends.
The statement reviews all the communication methods that victims have at their disposal, such as the 016 online consultations through the email 016-online@igualdad.gob.es, the WhatsApp channel in the number 600 000 016 and the online chat, accessible from the website violenciagenero.igualdad.gob.es, works 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
“These means of assistance can be activated by the victim and also by anyone who knows or suspects a case of gender-based violence. It’s a duty of the whole society,” the statement said.
With Celeste, 41 women have been murdered in Spain by their partners or ex-partners so far this year.
