- Francisco Martín: “Education is the key to prevention and to identifying male violence”
The videos entitled La Claudia de antes and Léeme entre línea have been the winners in the II Edition of the Youth Short Video Contest Against Violence Against Women organized by the Delegation of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, whose main objective is to increase awareness and sensitization of youth on issues of equality and violence against women.
The first, by Julia Cuerdo, Almudena González, María García, Adriana Martín, Laura Ramos, Marina Sanz, Nieve Klinge, Olivia Orte and Rocío García, was in category 1 (from 12 to 16 years); and the second, by Elisa Lozano and Adrián Von Kobbe, in category 2 (from 17 to 22 years).
In category 1, they have completed the order of finalists: in 2nd place: Behind the scenes with Better a kiss; in 3rd place: Edurne Fernández with Sopla; and in 4th place: Olalla Asenjo and Jorge González with El amor is blind.
In category 2, the classification of the finalists was as follows: in 2nd place: Nerea Trenado, Daniel Rodríguez, Kira Guerrero and Nerea González with Fear of being a woman; in 3rd place: David Gómez, Adrián Merguedas and Francisco Páramo with Kilometer Zero; and in 4th place, Iván Lobo, Alejandra Cura, Andrea Lloret, Iris Ibáñez, Raúl Fernández and Rapael González with Iris.
The delegate of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín, wanted to thank the “impressive” work of all the participants and, especially, of the finalists, aware that, behind each video, “there have been many days of preparation to send a message, with their own codes, to protect women from male violence.”
Along the same lines that some of the winners have maintained, he has pointed out that “education is the key to prevention”. For this reason, he recalled that within the Master Plan for the Improvement of Coexistence and Improvement of Security in Educational Centers and their Environments, talks are contemplated on the relationship between young people and gender violence so that, from early ages, boys and girls “learn to identify this type of violence”. But if it arrives, if it occurs, there are also “resources, help and tools” available to the victims to attend to them.
Francisco Martín wanted to highlight the fact that, in this second edition, there has been a greater participation of young people, showing that they are increasingly aware that in order to eradicate gender violence, their involvement and responsibility are necessary. “Equality has to become effective and challenges us all,” he concluded.
