The delegate of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, has today visited San Sebastián de los Reyes to supervise the police device established for the confinements of the municipality during its patron saint’s parties.
The police device for the festivities in the town was agreed at the Local Security Board held on August 20, which was attended by the subdelegate of the Government, Pilar Trinidad. 126 members of the National Police, from both the IPU and the UPR, 110 members of the Local Police and a hundred volunteers of Civil Protection, will ensure the safety of their neighbours and neighbours.
During his tour of the running of the burial, the government delegate was accompanied by Manuel Soto, Superior Chief of the National Police of Madrid and Lucía S. Fernández, mayor of the municipality. Francisco Martín has been able to follow from the position of command the great work carried out by the Security Forces and Corps in these festivities and has thanked them for their effort and dedication so that all the festivities that have been celebrated in our region throughout the summer have been carried out with total security.
In statements to the media, he said that “the government of Spain supports at all times the work of Polía Nacional, its effectiveness and professionalism.”
Some enclosures with history
With more than 500 years of history, the running of San Sebastián de los Reyes is famous throughout Spain, only behind those of Pamplona. Only three times have it not been possible to celebrate for reasons external to the municipality that were, the Civil War, a judicial problem in 1969 and, more recently, the Covid-19 pandemic.
It was in 1525 when a provision from Emperor Charles I of Spain and V of Germany urged the Archbishopric of Toledo to return to the residents of San Sebastián de los Reyes what they paid for their holidays, including what refers to “running bulls”.
In 2010, the plenary of the Municipal Corporation of San Sebastián de los Reyes declared the enclosures and all the celebrations of its roots in the inhabitants of the municipality a Property of Cultural Interest.
