The Government Delegation has begun today with the training sessions that it will give to those public employees and their associates who have registered to act as representatives of the Administration in all the electoral premises of Madrid in the next elections to the European parliament on June 9.
The delegate of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín, wanted to thank the attendees for their disposition and collaboration "fundamental at a transcendental moment of European democracy", as well as to recognize the work of the eleven employees of the staff of the Government Delegation who are going to be in charge of training them on their role in the process and, for those who have to make use of electronic devices, on their management.
This preparation is part of the competences attributed to the Government Delegation in electoral matters. A total of 5 sessions have been scheduled — on 17, 18, 19, 24 and 25 May — at the National Institute of Public Administrations. In total, 1,371 people will be trained.
Two types of representatives
Among the people who act as representatives, there are some who handle electronic devices (tablets), and others who do not. In each electoral venue there is a coordinator and several representatives, with and without a tablet, depending on the number of tables that the electoral venue has.
For those who do not carry a tablet, one of its main functions is to assist and collaborate with the table members. In addition, the person in charge of coordinating the operation of the venue has to verify that all the necessary materials for the proper development of the electoral process are found in the electoral venue (ballot boxes, ballot papers, voting envelopes, electoral census, etc. ).
Those equipped with electronic devices (tablets) have to verify their degree of understanding and handling of the transmission device after the training session. In addition, a few days before the elections, they must complete a simulation. Its main task on the day of the elections is to transmit the different data during the election day, such as: the opening of the polling stations, the progress of participation and the scrutiny.
Accessible choices
As a novelty, in the training of these staff, special emphasis will be placed on improving the accessibility of all people with disabilities in the region who come to vote. For this reason, the recommendations and advice that have been compiled have been included in a complete accessibility guide available at: https://info.eleccioneseuropeas2024.es/accesibilidad/guia-accesibilidad
In order to reinforce the messages regarding how to act naturally and with respect for these people, use common sense, be cautious with physical contact or communicate with them clearly, the Government Delegation has produced a video with advice regarding the two aspects of the accessibility of electoral processes: accessibility for people who go to the polling place to vote and accessibility for the people designated to be part of the polling stations.
