The delegate of the Government of Spain in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín, co-chaired today with the Mayor of San Fernando de Henares, Javier Corpa, the Local Security Board of the municipality.
It has signed the ‘Protocol of Collaboration and Coordination between the State Security Forces and the Local Police Corps for the Protection of Victims of Domestic and Gender Violence’ (Protocol Ministry of the Interior – Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces signed on March 13, 2006). This is the previous and necessary step to achieve the full integration of the Local Police of San Fernando de Henares into the VioGén system of comprehensive monitoring of victims of gender violence.
Francisco Martín wanted to thank both the mayor and the Local Police for taking this first step, and also the National Police for their “unbeatable willingness” to work in this matter.
The Government Delegation is currently holding talks with several municipalities to ensure that their local police officers renew or integrate into this system to combat gender-based violence and, in this way, to involve their local police in its follow-up for more effective protection of victims.
Currently, there are already 37 municipalities in Madrid whose local police collaborate fully with the State Security Forces and Corps within the framework of the VioGén system for monitoring women victims of gender violence. The government delegate’s goal is to get everyone back on board within a year. Her wish would be for San Fernando de Henares to be in that group, which would be “fantastic news for the women and the general public of San Fernando de Henares.”
Crime data
In addition, the Board has taken stock of the situation of citizen security and the evolution of crime in the locality that has been “very positive”. According to data for the year 2023, the crime rate stood at 47.9, that is, 12 points below the Community of Madrid average, and both minor and serious and less serious crimes were reduced. Cybercrime even decreased, which is uncommon in the rest of the municipalities of the region.
Francisco Martín stressed that these figures are the result of the “excellent” collaboration between the National Police and the Local Police, both represented at the meeting, which hold regular meetings and between which there is fluid and permanent communication.
Party security devices
The Board has also reviewed the security mechanism for the San Fernando de Henares Patron Festivities, which will be held from May 29 to June 2, with the aim of covering all those events that take place during them.
