The government delegate to the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, held a meeting this morning with representatives of the ONCE. The meeting is part of the round of contacts that the delegate is maintaining with different political, economic and social agents of the region.
The meeting, held at the headquarters of the Delegation, was attended by the president of the Territorial Council of the ONCE in the Community of Madrid, María Teresa Rodríguez Peco, and the delegate of the ONCE in Madrid, Luis Natalio Royo Paz.
The heads of the ONCE have given the delegate an informative dossier of the ONCE Foundation, with the activity report of the year 2023.
Some topics covered were the Gaming Law, the employability of people with disabilities or the need to convene the Civil and Social Dialogue Bureau in Madrid.
Progress in inclusion: after the Constitution the Statute of Autonomy of Madrid must be modified
At the meeting, both sides welcomed the recent approval of the amendment to article 49 of the Constitution, which involves replacing the term “handicapped” with “disabled person”. In addition, they have shared the importance of the Statute of the Community of the Community of Madrid also following this line and being reformed to eliminate this term and for the autonomous text to reflect the rights of people with disabilities.
The delegate also shared with ONCE the commitment he made a few days ago with CERMI, so that the Government Delegation in Madrid is fully accessible, both in mobility and in other areas such as easy reading, pictograms or technological accessibility. The first step will be to conduct an audit to see the shortcomings in this field.
