- He reminded the victims of gender-based violence, the victims of Hamas terrorist acts, and also the civilians who died in Israel’s response. He also called for a solution to the situation of the families of the Cañada Real
- Claims that Madrid is a “safe region” thanks to the commitment of the Government of Spain, which has placed at record highs the number of agents in the Community
The government delegate in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, has today claimed the validity of the Constitution as the “best framework for coexistence between Spaniards of the different nationalities and regions that make up this country so diverse and plural in ideological, sociological and territorial terms”.
It was during his speech at the commemorative event for the 45th anniversary of the Magna Carta of the Community of Madrid, held at the Real Casa de Correos, and presided over by the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso.
In his speech he defended its “perfect functioning” and its full compliance “throughout Spain” but “with a significant exception that has already been extended for 5 years”. “I am referring to the fact that the governing body of the judiciary has been expired for five years due to the constitutional disloyalty of some political actors, seriously affecting the prestige of the institution,” he explained.
In this regard, he has been convinced that the political groups will overcome “the constitutional disloyalty of some actors, which so much affects the prestige of our institutions, and will make every effort to reach an agreement for the renewal of the Council.”
Because, “defending the Constitution is not taking a step backwards in the rights won and in the public services built for everyone. Defending the constitution means leaving no one behind and fighting for a more egalitarian society in the region with the greatest economic inequality,” he said.
Stretched hand
Francisco Martín stressed that the commitment of the Government of Spain to the Community of Madrid “is and will continue to be firm” to face the many challenges that the region must face. “Some are shared with the rest of Spain, such as digital transformation, ecological transition and the fight against climate change. But others have a special Madrid accent, such as difficult access to housing or high economic and social inequality,” he said.
In this regard, he has expressed his “firm will to recover cordial and collaborative institutional relations”, and has invited President Ayuso to work on it “from today” because “Madrileños and Madrileñas are tired of artificial polemics”. “They deserve and expect their institutions to cooperate without vetoes or closed doors,” he added.
Social justice
The government delegate did not want to forget the reality of the marginalized people and deprived of the basic conditions for a dignified life in the Community of Madrid. In his opinion, the “most extreme” case is in the Cañada Real, the largest shanty town in Europe.
For this reason, he has called for the signing of the Rehousing Protocol to be delayed no longer because “it is of justice”. “We owe it to those families, to the children who live in those conditions,” he said.
Solidarity with all victims
In his opinion, the most brutal manifestation of inequality is gender violence, male violence, and he has remembered the last women killed by this scourge in the region, including a girl of just 5 years.
She has reaffirmed the commitment of the State Security Forces and Bodies, together with the local police, to protect the women victims but has also called for a “greater effort” of all the competent administrations so that, through prevention, protection, accompaniment and reparation, these women know “that they are not alone”.
It also wanted to show its solidarity and that of the Government of Spain with the victims of the terrorist attacks by Hamas on 7 October and its rejection of terrorist violence, and also its support for all civilians, men, women, girls and children who have died as a result of the Israeli military response in the Gaza Strip.
He also did not want to forget all the victims of the Russian attack on Ukraine, an “unacceptable” aggression that is going to be two years old.
Madrid, a safe region
Among the competences of the Government Delegation is citizen security and, on this point, the government delegate has said that Madrid is “a safe region, with a conventional criminality lower than that existing before the pandemic”.
These data are possible “thanks to the daily effort and extraordinary professionalism of the National Police, the Civil Guard and the local police.”
The commitment of the Government of Spain to security and to the FCSE is demonstrated with a historical maximum of agents that are equivalent to 10% more in the last 5 years, the improvement of its equipment and its remunerative improvement.
Finally, he wanted to reiterate that the doors of the Delegation, “which are those of the Government of Spain”, will be “always open” to all Madrileños and Madrileñas, and to their institutions. “With the will to collaborate and defend the general interest and prosperity of the citizens,” he concluded.
