The Government delegate to the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, accompanied the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, this morning at the opening ceremony of the reformed headquarters of the National Police Station of the Central District of Madrid, the largest in Spain and one of the largest in the entire European Union.
The inauguration ceremony was also attended by the general director of the Police, Francisco Pardo, and the president of the Society of Penitentiary Infrastructures and Equipment and State Security (SIEPSE), Mercedes Gallizo.
The emblematic building of the Madrid street of Leganitos 19, which was built in 1940, has been subjected to an integral rehabilitation that has lasted fifteen months, with an investment of 6.6 million euros. The rehabilitation has made it possible to adapt the building to the new operational needs of the National Police with the idea of making it a more functional, comfortable, safe and sustainable police station.
La de Leganitos is a dynamic police station with a lot of police activity by giving protection to various neighborhoods --University, Palace, Cortes, Justicia and Sol--, as well as emblematic buildings in Madrid and more important institutions in Spain such as the Royal Palace, the Congress of Deputies, the Senate, the General Council of Judicial Power or the National High Court.
