The government delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, chaired this morning the Security Board in which the coordination of the security device has been finalized for the celebration of the State Demonstration of LGTBI+ Pride 2023, which will take place on July 1.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the convening and organizing associations —LGTBI+ State Federation, COGAM and AEGAL—; of the Superior Police Headquarters of Madrid; of the Municipal Police of Madrid; of Firemen and Samur-Civil Protection of the City Council of the capital; of the Transport Consortium; of the Metro of Madrid; of the Municipal Transport Company and of Renfe.
The device includes reinforcement at Metro and Renfe stations at peak times and protection of areas with high public density. Also, after the passage of the demonstration on foot, the fence of the Prado-Recoletos axis will be proceeded to the route of the floats. This measure is intended to increase safety and prevent accidents. At the same time, in the event of an incident, evacuation would be facilitated.
In addition, multitudinous events such as the proclamation on Wednesday 28 in Pedro Zerolo square will have a specific device coordinated with the Municipal Police, to which the government delegate has wanted to thank his “fundamental collaboration to ensure that the demonstration takes place in the best conditions of security”.
Francisco Martín has extended his gratitude to the convening and organizing associations “for the generosity and willingness to agree” demonstrated during the preparation of this demonstration.
He has also been convinced that, with the measures established, these Pride festivities will be able to be celebrated “safely and freely”, and that the participants, who are expected to exceed one million, will be able to enjoy the different events “without worries”.
“These festivities are a magnificent window to show the outside again the best of what we are and what we have. They are going to be a success and we are going to be able to enjoy them in safety and assert how it should be that we do not have to take a step backwards in the struggle of the LGTBI+ collective,” he added.
