The government delegate in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín, visited today the Border Control Post of the Air Cargo Center of the Adolfo Suárez Madrid Barajas airport, where several services of the General Administration of the State work that contribute to this airport, the largest in the country, “is ready and works well day by day”.
The government delegate recalled that this is the “nerve center for receiving air cargo in the country” where, last year, “more than 566 million kilograms of goods” were moved and through which “more than 50 million travelers” passed.
Francisco Martín has started his tour in the External Health Service, formed by a team of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, veterinarians, agricultural and agricultural engineers, as well as auxiliary staff, who carry out their work during the 24 hours, through the Health and Agriculture Areas of the Government Delegation in Madrid. His task is to control international health emergencies or the administration of vaccines, which is why the delegate wanted to reiterate his appreciation for the work they did during the pandemic.
During 2022, the medical service of External Health administered 630 vaccines and, in the first quarter of 2023, 101. As far as the sanitary processing of biological sample files is concerned, during 2022 a control of 3704 samples was processed and, in the first three months of 2023, 970. In addition, the Mortuoria Sanitary Police has carried out a total of 1244 international transfers of corpses between 2022 and March 2023.
As for the inspection of pharmaceutical products, which are carried out at the Border Control Post to control the entry and exit of medicinal and cosmetic products, in 2022 44,939 files were processed, and the entry of 7967 illegal medicines was withheld. In the first quarter of this year, 14,169 files have already been processed, and 4811 medicines have been retained for illegal purposes.
The inspections also extend to all products of animal and plant origin for human consumption, to check that they have all health precautions, as well as to the import and export of live vegetables and animals, which are carried out by the services of veterinary control, animal health and plant health.
From January to March of this year, 8323 checks have been carried out, which is equivalent to 17,951,962 net kilos of merchandise such as fruit, meat or dairy products. In 2022, these figures were 29,039 files with a net weight of 55,169,855 kilos.
Under the heading of animal health, point of entry for pet animals and where controls are carried out on live animals, products of animal origin not intended for human consumption, products intended for animal feed, import and export, as well as export to products of animal origin intended for human consumption, 33,454 import/export documents and certificates have been processed from 2021 to the first quarter of 2023. In plant health, the figure for certificates issued for cut flowers, vegetables, fruits, live plants and seeds for imports is 59,333 and, in exports, 7882.
Security Forces and Corps at the airport
The government delegate then went to the Civil Guard units at T4, where he was accompanied during the on-site on-site inspection of an aircraft, in order to gain first-hand knowledge of one of the tasks of his daily work.
Finally, he went to the National Police Station at the airport, which is entrusted with the functions of management, coordination and control, relating to the entry and exit of Spaniards and foreigners from the national territory, and to the border post located at Terminal 4 Satellite.
