- More than 4,800,000 people will be able to vote in the Community of Madrid to elect 2,355 councillors from 179 municipalities and 135 deputies of the Regional Assembly
- About 3,800 representatives of the Administration will attend throughout the region the more than 7,100 polling stations and the almost 1,100 premises necessary for the elections of the last Sunday of May
- More than 150 people of the Delegation participate in the different logistical activities to ensure that the votes on the electoral day run normally
The Government delegate in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín, visited this morning the electoral logistics warehouse that the Government Delegation has in the polygon of La Garena, in Alcalá de Henares, where all the necessary material is deposited for the development of the municipal elections and the Assembly of Madrid on Sunday, May 28.
After visiting the facilities, Francisco Martín highlighted the “very important” logistical role of the Government Delegation in the holding of these elections, in two main activities:
- The distribution from this logistics center of all the material and physical elements for the vote: ballot boxes, booths and signage, ballot papers and envelopes, printed papers and minutes.
- Coordination in the transmission of data from municipal and regional elections on election day, through representatives of the Administration.
A team of more than 150 people from the Government Delegation, coordinated by the General Secretariat, has been working for several weeks to ensure that voting on election day takes place normally and that Madrileños can exercise their right to vote without problems.
The government delegate has recognized the work of this team and the people of the contracted support companies, and has thanked them for the “enormous effort” they are making in these weeks.
Distributed more than 3,600 booths and 14,200 ballot boxes for the 1,090 polling stations in the Community
The exercise of the right to vote in the Community of Madrid, on May 28, will take place in 1,090 voting centers, of which 431 are located in the capital Madrid. In these premises the 4,480 electoral sections and 7,118 electoral tables are distributed, 3,478 of which are housed in Madrid’s capital.
In recent weeks, the Government Delegation has distributed 14,236 ballot boxes and 3,614 voting booths to polling stations, as well as school and table signers. Now the ‘soft material’ is being distributed: minutes, envelopes and ballot papers of municipalities and the Community of Madrid (more than 80,000,000).
Recycling of ballot boxes and election materials
Francisco Martín has highlighted the “spirit of circular economy” and the recycling work that is being incorporated into the organization of the electoral process itself, to take advantage of all the material as much as possible. In particular, the government delegate referred to the recycling of ballot boxes, which has been going on for a long time, and which are being prepared for upcoming electoral processes.
Almost 3,800 representatives of the Administration will provide the data in the election day
To provide information on the constitution of the polling stations, on the data of participation throughout the day and on the results of the election, 3,777 representatives of the Administration have been appointed, of which 1,889 will be transmitters and 1,888 support representatives.
These representatives have been appointed by the Delegation of the Government and the Community of Madrid for the voting centers of Madrid Capital, and by municipal officials in the other 178 municipalities. More than 1,700 will be in the city of Madrid and about 2,000 in the rest of the region.
These representatives are being formed by the team of the Government Delegation in these first two weekends of the month of May. In addition, from the first hour of the day of the vote, the Coordination Center of the Government Delegation will be constituted to collect the incidents that may occur during the electoral day.
More than 4,800,000 registered people will be able to exercise their right to vote
A total of 4,839,234 people will participate in the municipal elections and the Madrid Assembly, according to the Electoral Census Office of the National Institute of Statistics (INE). Of these, 2,553,309 are women and 2,285,925 are men.
A total of 372,448 people make up the census of Spanish residents and absentees in the province of Madrid, for living abroad. In addition, an additional 63,187 persons who form the census of foreign voters residing in the Community and who have the right to vote in municipal elections may vote in municipal elections. Since the previous elections of May 26, 2019, there are 250,083 new voters, having reached the age of 18 since then.
The voters will elect 135 deputies of the Madrid Assembly, among 21 proclaimed candidates, and 2,355 councillors from the 179 municipalities of the Community.
Vote by mail
To date, more than 115,000 requests to vote by mail have been registered. Until May 18, all citizens who wish to do so can request a vote by mail at a Post office.
Elimination of the Robed Vote
In the area of elections to the Madrid Assembly, for the first time, it will be possible to exercise the right to vote from abroad without the need to request a vote, since the reform of the Organic Law of the General Electoral Regime that was approved on September 30 and that eliminates this administrative procedure for Spaniards living outside our country is applied.
