The delegate of the Government in La Rioja, Beatriz Arraiz Nalda, chaired this morning the Autonomous Commission of Traffic, Road Safety and Sustainable Mobility, a consultative collegiate body for the promotion and improvement of traffic and road safety in the urban and interurban area in the Autonomous Community of La Rioja.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the General Administration of the State with competence directly or indirectly related to traffic and road safety; of the Autonomous Community of La Rioja and Local Entities; traffic representatives of the State Security Forces and Bodies; and professionals from the business, economic and social sectors of La Rioja.
The delegate has specified that the Autonomous Commission of Traffic, Road Safety and Sustainable Mobility has met this 2025 in advance of other years due to the accident recorded in November, especially in the N-232, which has caused urgent actions to be carried out on that road. In particular, Arraiz Nalda has specified that “the signals of prohibition of overtaking with fluorescent signage will be enhanced throughout the stretch, the extension of the section of prohibition of overtaking before and after the change of grade, and the continuous double line will be established. In addition, the milled longitudinal soundtrack will be executed.”
Arraiz Nalda also wanted to send a message of caution to all those who plan to take the car during the Christmas holidays. “These are days in which many meals and many company wines are celebrated and it must be clear that alcohol and drugs are totally incompatible with taking the car and endangering your life and that of the rest of the drivers.”
For her part, the provincial head of Traffic, Beatriz Zúñiga Reinares, recalled that in this 2025, as of December 5, the “provisional balance of accidents at 24 hours, in interurban roads, 11 deaths are computed”. And as for the roads on which such accidents have occurred (321 accidents with victims): “3 have been in the AP-68, 3 in the N-232, another 2 in the N-111 in addition to one in the A-12 and another two in two autonomous roads”.
Zúñiga Reinares has also highlighted the reasons for the recorded fatal accidents. “Three of them, those of the AP-68, have been through distracted driving and drowsiness in addition to a person who crossed the AP-68 on foot in a clear recklessness. In addition, the other fatal accidents were caused by an anti-regulatory overtaking and inadequate speed in the N-111 and the N-232. And one of the deceased was not wearing a seatbelt.”
Finally, the provincial head of Traffic recalled that we are in a week of intensification of surveillance of alcohol and drugs in driving, carried out by the Civil Guard and municipal police, a campaign motivated by the proximity of the next Christmas dates and that was also carried out in La Rioja last summer.
