At the end of March, the total crime registered in the Autonomous Community has decreased by 6 tenths, going from 37.7 criminal acts known to every thousand inhabitants at the end of 2023 to 37.1. The delegate of the Government in La Rioja, Beatriz Arraiz Nalda, has explained that, according to these data recorded in the Crime Balance for the first quarter of 2024, La Rioja ascends two positions and ranks as the fourth most secure autonomous community, 14.6 points below the national average that was in this first quarter in 51.7.
This Crime Balance shows the evolution of criminal offences registered by the National Police and Civil Guard in La Rioja. As a statistical novelty, and to have a better X-ray to deal with this phenomenon, it includes a specific breakdown on cybercrime. This statistical effort provides more complete information in line with the real evolution of crime.
In this way, the State Security Forces learned during the first quarter of 2024 of a total of 2,837 criminal offenses in La Rioja, according to the Crime Balance, published on the website of the Ministry of the Interior. In this same period in 2023, the figure amounted to 3,019.
In the breakdown by conventional crime and cybercrime, both recorded a decrease: conventional from 2,345 to 2,313 (variation of -1.4%) and cybercrime from 674 to 524 (-22.3%).
On the other hand, the subtractions in agricultural or livestock farms have registered a significant decrease: compared to 67 in the first quarter of 2023 to 36 in 2024 (-46.3%).
As for the percentage of clarified criminal offenses, the percentage has increased to 43.8% (43.1% in 2023), as well as the rate of detainees for every 1,000 criminal offenses, from 307 to 318.
Police officers available in La Rioja
Another aspect highlighted by the delegate is the number of police officers available at La Roja, which in March 2024 reached 1,573 (312 national police and 1,261 civil guards, 41 more than in December 2023).
Taking into account the figures of the Ministry of the Interior, the variation with respect to 2017 is 110 more police officers in the autonomous community (+7.5%). Specifically, 76 more civilian guards (+6.4%) and 34 more national police (+12.2%).
Logroño and Calsalvo
This crime balance provides a collection of data on criminal offences recorded in localities with a population of over 20,000 inhabitants.
With regard to the crime data recorded during the first quarter of 2024 in the Rioja capital, the crime rate at the end of March 2024 was 36.9, 3 tenths below 2023 (37.2).
From January to March, Logroño recorded a -2.6% conventional crime compared to the first three months of 2023 (1,085 crimes in 2023 and 1,057 in 2024). Cybercrime also fell by 4.2% in this period, from 284 to 272 crimes.
In Calahorsa, the crime rate did not change and stood at 56.7. Compared to the same period from January to March, conventional crime increased by 10.6% (293 in 2023 and 324 in 2024), while cybercrime decreased by 49.2% (65 in 2023 compared to 33 in March).
