The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has signed, through the National Geographic Information Center, an agreement with the Autonomous Community of La Rioja and the Autonomous Community of Navarre for the updating and improvement of intercommunity territorial delimitations
The agreement, which aims to update the territorial delimitations of the adjoining municipal terms between the two autonomous communities, provides for the carrying out of work for the recovery, geometric improvement and quality assurance of the jurisdictional boundary lines between the Autonomous Community of La Rioja and the Autonomous Community of Navarre.
This recovery and improvement consists of providing UTM coordinates (universal transversal system of Mercator) to all the pillars that make up each of the jurisdictional lines, as well as the geometric concretion of the sections between consecutive pillars. It is also planned to replace those who have disappeared, assuming the additional cost to the city council of the corresponding Autonomous Community.
For this purpose, cooperation between the State Administration, through the National Geographic Information Center, is important in the exercise of the competences legally attributed to them in this matter.
The General Directorate of the National Geographic Institute, responsible for providing the State with a comprehensive knowledge of the physical reality on which to project its action, will register the improved limit lines in the Central Cartographic Register.
The agreement will be in force until December 31, 2025, and may be extended for annual periods up to a maximum of four. The economic valuation is estimated to amount to 60,000 euros VAT included, distributed equally between the Autonomous Community of La Rioja and the Foral Community of Navarra. The CNIG will provide human resources and resources specific to its institution, so it will not involve any increase in expenditure.
The works subject to the agreement will not in any case involve the alteration of the limit lines. If as a result of the work carried out in this agreement there appear discrepancies in the location of the pillars, the municipalities will be informed of the procedure provided in the current regulations to initiate new works of delineation.
