In the first eight months of 2024, Arnedo recorded a significant decline in the crime rate, falling by seven points from the end of 2023. In this way, it has gone from 20.84 known criminal offenses per thousand inhabitants at the end of last year to 13.81 in August of this exercise.
The delegate of the Government of Spain in La Rioja, Beatriz Arraiz Nalda, and the mayor of Arnedo, Javier García Ibáñez, presided this morning the meeting of the Local Security Board held in the plenary hall of the City of Arnedo.
Arraiz Nalda has specified that one of the issues addressed in this meeting of coordination and cooperation in police matters has been the significant increase in the number of civil guard personnel who have joined this summer in the Company of Calsalvo and, in this way, in the position of Arnedo.
In this way, “the number of personnel in Arnedo has practically doubled and the staff of this post is completed with 24 of 28 agents, which has a direct impact on the prevention of the commission of crimes and on the clarification,” he said.
As for the violations committed in the period from January to August 2024, 210 have been reached, which means a reduction of 7.89% compared to the same period last year.
In the comparison of these first eight months of 2024 and 2023, the decrease in crimes against heritage and socioeconomic order, such as theft (from 37 to 29) and theft inside vehicles of (10 to 4), is significant.
In addition, the administrative infractions filed by the Civil Guard for possession and consumption of drugs have increased significantly, from 81 January to August 2023 to 155 in this period of 2024.
In this sense, the mayor of Arnedo, Javier García Ibáñez, has pointed out that the possession and consumption of drugs “is an issue that worries us because it is not only a problem of public health, also of citizen security and of alteration to public order, so the notable increase in administrative infractions that have been interposed is a reflection of good police work and greater vigilance”.
For this reason, García Ibáñez has thanked the coordination that has always existed and that is so effective in clarifying different crimes between the Civil Guard and the local police.
