The delegate of the Government in La Rioja, Beatriz Arraiz Nalda, presided this morning the meeting of the Committee on Migratory Flows to work towards the good development of agricultural campaigns in the autonomous community.
To this end, it has been proposed that the meetings held throughout the year be increased in order to address the issues that arise in the different agricultural campaigns that take place in La Rioja and evaluate the measures adopted at the end of each of them.
Several points related to the hiring of workers for this campaign and seasonal accommodation have been addressed on the agenda.
With regard to temporary housing for agricultural workers, it has been insisted that municipal shelters that enable municipalities are intended for those who do not have a work contract and who are looking for employment in the Rioja countryside.
For those who do have a contract, it is the farmers who must assume their responsibility to provide them with accommodation. Likewise, representatives of the agricultural sector have conveyed their concern about the labor shortage that is being detected in the last agricultural campaigns.
In order to resolve this issue, it has been agreed to set up a working group within this committee in which possible solutions will be addressed.
With regard to the General State Administration, the Labour and Social Security Inspectorate will monitor the conditions for hiring workers.
The inspection work will focus on the control of the regulations on social security, employment, foreigners and risk prevention, as well as the control of compliance with the agricultural convention in force. In addition, the Labour Inspectorate, in collaboration with the State Security Forces and Corps, will work on the detection of impersonations of agrarian workers, illegal hiring and any violation of workers’ rights.
