The Spanish Food Awards are one of the most successful instruments of promotion and support to the agri-food sector developed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food for contributing to the recognition of the work of entities, entrepreneurs and professionals who have distinguished themselves by producing, elaborating, marketing and offering the consumer quality food, with advanced and environmentally friendly methods and technologies.
These awards, which began to be awarded in 1987, have become a benchmark not only for companies that opt for the awards, but for the entire Spanish agri-food and fishing sector. In this way, they aim to promote and stimulate the different elements of the food chain in the production, transformation, use, knowledge and consumption of food in Spain. Likewise, it is about recognizing the marketing effort, innovative, of rural development and care of the environment, and of internationalization and in the elaboration of quality foods.
Currently, these awards have five categories: Award "Food of Spain", Award "Food of Spain Best Extra Virgin Olive Oils", Award "Food of Spain Best Cheeses", Award "Food of Spain to the Best Wine" and Award "Food of Spain to the Best Ham". They are called every year, except the Spanish Food Award for Best Cheese and the Spanish Food Award for Best Ham which are biennial in character.
