Rodríguez Badal calls to recover the great consensus of the Constitution and achieve a State pact on housing
The institutional event of Constitution Day, held today at the Royal Palace of La Almudaina in Palma, commemorated the 46th anniversary of the approval of the Constitution in a referendum. The institutional celebration, which took place in the Salon del Tinell, with the assistance of civil and military authorities and representatives of the academic, economic and social world, was co-chaired by the government delegate in the Balearic Islands, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal; the president of the Balearic Government, Margalida Prohens, and the president of the Council of Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés.
In his institutional speech on December 6, the delegate assured that the essence and objectives of the Constitution “remain unchanged and this guarantees its strength”, although he pointed out the need to recover “the path of agreement on those fundamental issues for our society”; “the Constitution must be able to be updated to ensure essential rights for a dignified life”, he said. In this regard, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal has called for “a great State pact for housing” and has warned about the need to activate “all the legislative mechanisms necessary to mitigate the consequences of climate change” and to reach consensus on priority issues such as migration and male violence.
On this occasion, the traditional reading of articles has been carried out by members and by users on behalf of the associative fabric of the third sector that works for the social integration of people with disabilities. One of the articles of the Constitution selected for reading in this edition was 49, which was reformed last February for the incorporation of the term “people with disabilities”. In addition, the articles on fundamental rights and duties, the equality of all persons before the law and the right to decent housing have been recalled.
The musical accompaniment of the event was carried out by the Quartet de Corda, who performed the songs Intermezzo, by the opera Goyescas, by Enrique Granados; Suspiros de España, by Antonio Álvarez; Tango, by Isaac Albéniz, and La Dama de Mallorca, by Enrique Pastor.
