The Government allocates about 800,000 euros to Balears to increase the offer of the Degree in Medicine by nine places
The Council of Ministers in office today approved, on the proposal of the Ministry of Health, the allocation of 790,501 euros to Illes Balears to increase by nine places the offer of the Degree of Medicine in the academic year 2023/2024.
The approved royal decree regulates the direct granting of grants, for a total amount of 52 million euros, aimed at financing the increase of 706 places of the Degree of Medicine in public universities in the academic year 2023-2024.
This RD also aims to improve the teaching quality of the Degree in Medicine and increase, in the medium term, the number of doctors graduated from Spanish universities to promote access to Specialized Health Training in the Degree in Medicine.
In addition, it facilitates the increase, in the long term, of the availability of medical professionals as a partial measure against the deficit of health professionals of certain specialties.
This royal decree also responds to the needs expressed in the studies of supply and need of medical specialists published by the Ministry of Health and, specifically, the report published in March 2021 with a time horizon 2021-2035.
This report notes that the number of students graduating from medical schools is insufficient in relation to the offer of Specialized Health Training (MIR) places and the needs of specialists in some specialties, such as Family and Community Medicine.
The beneficiary entities must submit, through the electronic headquarters of the Ministry of Health, an application for advance payment of the subsidy addressed to the General Directorate of Professional Management.
The deadline for submitting applications will begin at 10:00 a.m. on August 10, 2023 and will end at 10:00 a.m. on September 4, 2023.
