SEPES formalizes the purchase of a plot in Maó to make affordable housing

The general director of SEPES, Fidel Vázquez, has informed the mayor of Maó, Héctor Pons, of the acquisition of a public plot located in the center of the city.

SEPES, a public land business entity under the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma), has acquired Invied, an agency under the Ministry of Defense, a plot in the urban center of Maó (Menorca), which will allow the construction of around 50 affordable homes.

The director general of the entity, Fidel Vázquez, has traveled with his team to the Menorcan capital, where he confirmed the closure of the transaction in a meeting with the mayor of Maó, Héctor Pons. After the celebration, the general director of SEPES and the mayor of the city have visited the grounds where the future performance will take place.

The plot of Maó is a public land of 2,579 m², with a buildability of 3,563 m², located in the center of the city, specifically in Calle Vasallo. The formalization of the purchase of this finalist plot to Invied has been carried out this week, which will allow from now on to accelerate the urban management necessary to carry out the action.

In addition to half a hundred planned dwellings, the project will allow the construction of parking spaces, with emphasis on sustainable mobility needs for the area.

The Vasallo project is one of the ten actions already attached to the Housing Plan for Affordable Rent promoted by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, and where SEPES participates with these actions already attached, which add more than 15,300 homes, and, in parallel, is already working on the analysis of new locations on public land to incorporate at least another 23,000.

Commitment to Balears

The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, through SEPES, has actions under way in the Balears that will allow the construction of more than 1,370 protected homes.

The public business entity is present in the islands of Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca, with different residential projects. In particular, it has Son Busquets, in Mallorca, with capacity for more than 800 homes; in Ibiza, in the Ca n’Escandell performance, 532 homes will be built, of which 367 will be destined for affordable rent; while in Menorca around 45 homes will be built on the grounds of a plot of land on Calle Vasallo, in Maó.

As a public instrument, it works in the development of urban activities, both in the promotion, acquisition and preparation of land, for industrial, residential, tertiary and service projects.
