The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Olimpia López, highlighted today in the City of Muras “the need to train society in equality through the reading of feminist texts that contribute to ending with sexist and unequal behaviors.” This was affirmed in a new installment of the Travelling Suitcase against Gender Violence, accompanied by the mayor, Manuel Requeijo.
The MAVI project: The Travelling Suitcase against Gender Violence is an initiative promoted by the Government Subdelegation, which brings books on different topics related to feminism, equality, empowerment, self-esteem or male violence to neighbors and neighbors of all ages.
Olimpia López gave the suitcase with 12 books for the city council, highlighting the good reception that this program has in the province. He stressed, in this sense, the importance of this resource as a tool “to remove consciences and change machista habits that are still present in a society that, to this day, continues marked by sexist and patriarchal behaviors.”
“MAVI is a more necessary project than ever, because, unfortunately, we see daily how the number of machista murders continues to grow,” warned López, who called for support and unanimity from all institutions “to continue developing public policies aimed at transforming our society into a more egalitarian, fair and safe one for women.”
Finally, the deputy delegate thanked the City of Muras for its collaboration with this initiative, “since, from the Government, we work hand in hand with the municipalities to address this issue of State, creating awareness about a problem that affects us all.”
With this presentation, the City Council of Muras, joins those of Viveiro, Sarria, Vilalba, Meira, Trabada, Quiroga, Cervantes, Barreiros, Chantada, Monforte, Burela, Taboada, Sarria, Lugo and Ribeira de Piquín, as well as the penitentiary centers of Bonxe and Monterroso, which analyzed these texts that promote reflection, awareness and awareness on determining issues to build a society free of violence, favoring a critical thought in the face of stereotypes and gender roles that perpetuate.
In total, three suitcases are traveling through the province with this material that will follow their trip in women’s information centers, associations of women victims of gender violence and social services of the municipalities that request the suitcase.
