The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, reaffirmed the role of the Government of Spain as guarantor of the investments that transform the small municipalities of Galicia. He gave as an example of this commitment the integral improvement actions carried out in Bernardo Sagasta Street, in Cuntis, to which the Government approached 480,000 euros in the framework of the DUS 5000 Program, of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO), financed with funds from the Recovery Plan, with the objective of supporting municipalities with less than 5,000 inhabitants.
This amount made it possible to deal with 85% of the work budget (577,000 euros), so it is a very important and strategic investment for a city council such as Cuntis. The delegate verified on the ground, together with the mayor, Manuel Campos, and the subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, the completion of this infrastructure that supposes the integral modernization of the road, betting on the improvement of urban quality, energy efficiency and accessibility.
“This project is aligned with the objectives of the Government’s Recovery Plan and makes Cuntis a greener, more sustainable, more efficient and more friendly villa, tailored to people,” said Pedro Blanco. The delegate congratulated the mayor and highlighted his ability to raise funds from the Recovery Plan “and especially the work developed to implement them.” Finally, he promised to continue working hand in hand with the City Council to meet the needs and the Thermal Villa.
For his part, the mayor of Cuntis, Manuel Campos, thanked the support of the Government of Spain and stressed that this action represents "a very significant advance for the villa, both in terms of accessibility and efficiency and urban quality."
He stressed that investments such as this “allow us to respond to projects in high demand by the citizens that have a direct impact on the life of the neighborhood and are fundamental so that we can continue to improve our services and infrastructures.”
Works
The actions served to improve the mobility and universal accessibility of Bernardo Sagasta Street and a section of the N-640 road as it passes through the urban center of Cuntis. Specifically, traffic was reordered by creating a new road section with sidewalks and a 5-meter wide road platform with parking space interspersed with trees.
In addition, actions were carried out to calm the traffic and a cycling path of 2 meters wide was created in the 800 meters of intervention between Bernardo Sagasta Street and the N-640. At the same time, the lighting was improved in an integrated way with the aim of adapting it to the new uses of the road and meeting the current regulatory requirements. In addition, this makes it possible to significantly reduce the annual energy consumption.
