The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, defended today in Santiago de Compostela that the government’s work from dialogue and the will to reach agreements guarantees the future of the agricultural sector in Galicia. Pedro Blanco participated in the inauguration of the 12th Joint Congress of Agrarian Unións-UPA, together with the Subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, and the General Secretary of Agrarian Unións-UPA, Roberto García.
Pedro Blanco recalled the numerous critical situations experienced by Galician society in recent years, such as the COVID pandemic, to show that a united society is stronger in the face of problems. “Through collaboration, listening and working together we are unstoppable,” said the delegate, who stressed that the Government maintained and maintains its commitment to leave no one behind, “always being on the side of professionals in the primary sector.”
“To all those people who are part of the backbone of Galicia, which are agriculture and livestock, I want to convey a message: we are going to continue at your side,” said Pedro Blanco, who stressed the Government’s objective of providing Galicia with a future full of opportunities that consolidate it as leader of the Spanish agro-livestock sector “always working in close collaboration with its professionals and guaranteeing its well-being and prosperity.”
In this committed line of support, Pedro Blanco highlighted the new Family Agriculture Law, “a highly demanded instrument with broad support from the sector, in which the Government works with all organizations to achieve a better society and so that our farmers and ranchers have a fair remuneration”. In this regard, he also stressed that the Government is committed to promoting policies that strengthen the countryside, facilitating access to modern resources and technology and, above all, ensuring fair and competitive working conditions and prices.
The delegate valued the investment of the CAP, with 140 M€ of direct aid in Galicia in the last year; the impulse for the modernization of irrigation and machinery, with the support for the contracting of insurance; the diesel bonuses or the extraordinary aid, which reached 33,000 farmers and ranchers in the community. “They are a good example of the effort of this government, which will not decrease in intensity,” said the delegate.
The delegate thanked Unións Agrarias UPA for its “tireless and incalculable” work and conveyed to him that he has the Government at his side. He also claimed the need for strong agricultural organizations, “as is this”, to guarantee a good future for the Galician agro-livestock sector.
