The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, presented on Wednesday the new permanent Violet Point of the penitentiary center of O Pereiro de Aguiar, which will be, he said, "a place of protection and information" for the victims of machista aggressions. During the visit, he was accompanied by the director of the penitentiary center, Francisco González.
To launch this Violeta Point, the head of the Unit against Violence against Women of the Government Subdelegation in Ourense, Alida Iglesias, gave training to the center’s officials on the protocols to follow in any case of violence, which may not be only among inmates, since professionals can also attend visitors. Iglesias provided the centre with information material on the Alertcops application, the 24-hour crisis centre and the Women’s Information Centres (CIMs).
Eladio Santos celebrated the involvement of the penitentiary center in the fight against violence against women, "a scourge that does not cease and that in the province of Ourense has already left a mortal victim this year". "The involvement of the whole society and the coordinated work of the administrations to pursue total equality is fundamental," he stressed.
Although the staff of the center is already trained to deal with any case of violence, the next and last step to officially launch the Violeta Point is the signing of a protocol between the penitentiary center and the Government Delegation against Gender Violence.
The Violeta Point is an instrument promoted by the Ministry of Equality to involve Spanish society in the fight against male violence and to spread massively the information necessary to know how to act in a case of violence against women. It also seeks to bring comprehensive services closer to victims through their environment.
