The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, inaugurated the XXXIII Melindre de Melide Festival this morning, together with the mayor, José Manuel Pérez, and the Patrimony deputy of the County Council of A Coruña, Xosé Penalties Corral.
María Rivas highlighted the cultural and gastronomic importance of this festival, declared of Galician Tourist Interest "and a whole reference of the identity of Galicia".
The deputy delegate highlighted Melide’s twinning with Santurtzi and congratulated the mayor, respectively, for this initiative, “which touches on the gastronomic excellence between melindres, sardines of Santurtzi and even the octopus of Melide”. He also highlighted the enormous Basque hospitality with the Galician diaspora, which exceeds 40,000 people.
