The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, defended the dialogue and collaboration to build a future project for the port and for the city of A Coruña. It did so at the Coruña Maritime Forum that was held in the city’s Canton Grande and in which the conclusions of the participatory process and the current situation of the project were presented to the citizens.
The deputy delegate took the opportunity to congratulate the mayor of the city, Inés Rey for making all her efforts in this project and for giving the city the opportunity to shine and to expand “this time to the sea”. He also stressed the importance of collaboration between the Government of Spain, as well as the Ministry of Transport and Portos of the State with the rest of the Administrations.
“With dialogue and transparency, the pillars of good policy, we make it possible for this project to become a reality for Coruña and its associative fabric.” “The future of the Coruñesas and Coruñeses was always linked to the sea and that is precisely why this project is so important. Coruña Marítima transforms a city that cried out for this transformation, a transformation that, thanks to the joint work of the Administrations, we will be able to see and, our sons and daughters, will be able to enjoy”, added the deputy delegate.
Actions within the Coruña Marítima project
The renewal of the port front seeks to generate urban and economic benefits, guaranteeing the continuity of activities such as cruise traffic, nautical traffic, general merchandise for fishing. Putting the focus especially on this last sector given its historical, social and economic relevance.
In this sense, the plan of the remodeling of the port contemplates the creation of new urban facilities focused on ensuring sustainable mobility and metropolitan integration: creation of a transport exchanger, construction of a multipurpose and covered enclosure, spaces for residential uses as well as the protection of industrial, historical and archaeological heritage preserving the port and landscape identity, among other actions.
This project is joined by others that reinforce the unprecedented commitment to the transformation of the city, turning the Coruña into a reference: the remodelling of the Avenida de Alfonso Molina or the construction of the new Intermodal station.
Next steps
A multidisciplinary international competition will soon be convened for the drafting of the Master Plan, a document that will reflect all the works that will be carried out within the Coruña Marítima project. This document, which will be prepared taking into account the different contributions of the associative fabric and the administrations responsible for carrying out the project, must present an innovative, flexible and sustainable vision for the future of the port and its integration with the city. Once completed, it will establish the various scenarios of unrolling in the medium and wide term taking into account the urban, economic and environmental challenges of the port environment.
