The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, has today called on Galician society to “give a resounding, forceful and immediate response” in the fight against male violence. “We can’t wait any longer,” he added.
He did so during the minute of silence held this morning in front of the Government Delegation in Galicia in memory of the last woman killed by gender violence in the province of Tarragona.
With the confirmation of this case, the number of women killed by male violence has risen to 9 so far this year, 1,303 since 2003. The victim had a minor child. The number of children orphaned by gender violence against their mothers has risen by eight so far this year and by 477 since 2013.
