The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted, on a visit to the Concello de Monfero, the government’s commitment to the rural environment through actions such as the UNICO 5G Active Networks Program, which brings connectivity to Galicians and Galicians through the investments of the Ministry for Digital Transition and the Public Service.
He did so in a meeting with the mayor in office of the municipality, Alberto Cortizas, accompanied by the subdelegate of A Coruña, María Rivas, in which he celebrated that the Galician concellos of less than 10,000 inhabitants can participate in this aid. He also took the opportunity to highlight the commitment of the Government by bringing 5G to 181 concellos of rural Galicia, among which is Monfero. “In this concello we are talking about an integral digitalization”, said the delegate referring to the 810 families that benefit from the UNICO program that brings ultra-fast broadband to the whole of the town.
Pedro Blanco stressed that the Government, through aid such as this, is committed to a living rural with a future, analyzing the deficiencies of the Galician rural and solving them. “What we are looking for is for the small concellos to attract population, and to reach that goal we work with actions like this. Actions that lead us in the right direction and that make us advance towards a society that is fairer and more adapted to progress”.
Impact in the four provinces
“This work has an impact on the well-being of thousands of Galicians and Galicians,” said Pedro Blanco, referring to the execution of the different actions distributed in 181 concellos of the Community. By provinces, A Coruña will receive 22 million euros; Lugo, 26M€; Ourense, 24 M€ for, and Pontevedra, 19 M€. Since 2021, the Government has invested 134 million euros in Galician digitalization, making it progress and eliminating any technological gap in the territory.
Program UNICO 5G Active Networks
El programa UNICO 5G Redes Activas es una iniciativa pionera en Europa. It allocates funds from the Recovery Plan to finance active equipment and the construction of towers that expand the deployment of 5G with full functionality in small municipalities. The goal is to provide 5G coverage to locations where there is no 4G mobile coverage of at least 50 Mbps downstream, and where it is not expected to be available for the next three years.
More government projects in Monfero
The delegate also recalled that the municipality of Monfero was one of the concellos of the Region of the Eume, together with As Pontes, A Capela, Cabanas and Pontedeume, which benefited from the Sustainability Plan of the Ministry of Industry, Consumption and Tourism with which a total of 1.5 million euros were approached to the community. A plan with which new equipment and tourist services were improved and created to respond to the demands of users in terms of sustainability, technological innovation and accessibility.
