The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, said today that, “for the first time and at the same time, a Spanish government deploys works in all the cities and the main regions of Galicia” mobilizing an investment of 3,665 million euros in public works. The delegate made this statement during the celebration of the business breakfast of the Provincial Association of Construction Entrepreneurs of A Coruña (APECCO) under the title ‘Construction: key to the development of Galicia’.
In front of businessmen and businesswomen of the province, the delegate detailed the scope of this investment, which is directly affecting 53% of the population of Galicia” and indirectly, in its entirety. This amount is achieved after a sustained growth in the time of the investments of the Government in public works in Galicia, through direct tenders (3,115 million of the total) and also by financing the tenders of other administrations with the transfer of capital from the Government (550 million). And it meant that “if in 2020, the investment in works in Galicia was 273 million euros, last year reached 725 million euros, more than double”, making Galicia one of the Spanish communities in which the execution of public works promoted by the State performed best.
Investment priorities
The delegate made a tour of the Government’s investment priorities in public works in Galicia, which go through the modernization of strategic infrastructures, the commitment to the intermodality of communications and the promotion of housing policies.
With regard to strategic infrastructures and intermodality, Pedro Blanco spoke of the renovations of the runways of the three airports, the railway links in the ports of A Coruña and Ferrol, and the intermodal stations in the main Galician cities.
Added to these projects was the improvement of the road network, which received 875 million euros in recent years from the Ministry of Transport: “We opened 38 kilometers of new roads and at the same time, increased investment in maintenance.” In this way, the investment in roads is more adjusted to the needs, dividing in a more balanced way between the new infrastructure and conservation of the existing one: “An example of this commitment is the investment that we will make this year 2025 of 30 million euros in the conservation of the A6 motorway in Galicia,” added Pedro Blanco.
At this point, the delegate acknowledged the role of the construction companies of Galicia in the execution of these strategic infrastructure projects, in which they participate individually or in UTE with other companies.
In housing, he recalled that “from the Government we are making an unprecedented effort to turn this right into the fifth pillar of the Welfare State”, which translated in Galicia into 520 million euros destined these years to finance policies of access to housing and rehabilitation: “We are financing 2 out of every 3 euros of public spending on housing in Galicia, enabling the construction of 1,500 affordable rental homes and the rehabilitation of another 18,500 more”.
Business meeting
The delegate thanked the president, Diego Vázquez, and the vice-president of APECCO, Begoña Losada, for holding this forum, “which connects the Public Administration with a business sector as important as the construction sector.” To the businessmen and businesswomen attending, he sent a message of recognition to their contribution to the progress of Galicia and the social welfare of the citizens: “Your successes are also successes of our society, where they have a positive impact, generating wealth and well-being and, consequently, strengthening our democracy.” Relevance that the Government wants to strengthen with the will “to continue being the best ally of the companies of this country,” he concluded.
The business breakfast, which was held in the Abanca Avenue Space of A Coruña, was attended by the subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, the head of the Development Area of the Delegation, the head of the State Coast Demarcation in Galicia, and the head of the Road Demarcation in the province of A Coruña.
