The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, visited today the city of A Estrada, to highlight the commitment of the Government of Spain to send European funds to the municipalities with the launch of the call for the new EDIL Plan (Local Integrated Development Strategy), promoted by the Ministry of Finance. The City of A Estrada comes from designing an Integrated Territorial Strategy (ETI) to attend this call.
The mayor of A Estrada, Gonzalo Louzao, together with the deputy mayor, Alberto Blanco, and the councilor, Luis López Bueno, explained to the subdelegate a strategy designed by the City Council to attract these funds, which allocate more than 170 million euros to the municipalities of Galicia. Losada highlighted the involvement of the Government of Spain in sending these funds, financed with the FEDER program of the European Union, to municipalities throughout Spain “in a sample of municipalism that does not correspond to the management of the FEDER that are managed at an autonomous level.”
Based on the mobility and humanization of the rural environment, the municipal strategy seeks to improve infrastructures in the 51 parishes of the municipality, covering at least half of the 473 population centers. The actions include the improvement of rainwater collection, the creation of pedestrian paths and the implementation of road safety measures, with the aim of humanizing rural areas and promoting safer mobility.
In addition, the City Council plans to build an integrated building on the site of the former INEM building to centralize all municipal social services and the integral reform of the House of Music, in order to improve the facilities dedicated to musical training and other cultural activities.
“If with the EDUSI strategy we managed to get more than 80 million euros to the municipalities of more than 20,000 inhabitants, now we double the funding to 174 million euros for Galicia,” said Losada, who described the EDIL Plan as “a new historic opportunity for the Galician municipalities” and applauded the City of A Estrada, which benefited from the previous EDUSI, aspires to do so again.
At the meeting, the subdelegate also reviewed the different issues of interest to the municipal government that are the competence of the General Administration of the State. In this regard, he highly appreciated the steps taken by the City Council to move forward with the signing, with the General Treasury of Social Security (TXSS), of the secondment agreement for the former health center, as recommended in recent months by the Subdelegation. The mayor indicated that the City Council is also studying the possibility of acquiring the property. To this end, it is holding talks with the TXSS with the aim of carrying out an economic valuation in which the expenses derived from the accessibility actions in the building are deducted and also the transfer of the information point of the INSS, located in this building, the municipal units.
The situation of the national roads that cross the municipal term, especially the N-640, was also not addressed. Abel Losada pledged to promote the necessary actions to improve the poor state of the firm. The subdelegate reported that he is making efforts at several levels to try to bring about the improvement and announced that in spring the first actions will be carried out within the framework of the conservation contract of 8 million in the northern area of the province. In addition, the meeting reviewed possible interventions to improve road safety in the urban center, on the crossing of Benito Vigo Avenue.
