The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, participated this morning in the IES Isaac Díaz Pardo de Sada in the presentation of the VI National Cyberleague of challenges in cyberspace organized by the Civil Guard, and which was attended by the students of 4th ESO, recipients of the pre-amateur modality created last year.
There are 15 educational centers in the province of A Coruña participating in this initiative and they will be able to register their teams, until November 22, through the web â www.ligagc.com. The teams will preferably be composed of 4 students, who will contest the qualifying phase in Galicia between 25 November and our own educational centers. The classified institutes will contest the final at the University Center of the Civil Guard of Aranjuez in the month of March 2025.
The subdelegate indicated that with this competition, the Civil Guard intends to raise awareness among young people about the safe and responsible use of new technologies, as well as to enhance knowledge and reward talent in the field of cybersecurity. The participating students will have to face, and try to solve, a series of cyber-challenges that simulate real situations that can be found when browsing the internet. And to solve them they must use all their skills, working as a team and putting into practice the teachings received, especially in the training action that is developed prior to the competition.
During her speech, María Rivas pointed out that “cybersecurity is built and must be improved day by day”, this is the only way to face the new threats that are emerging. “Hackers are increasingly acting with a higher level of sophistication, and we need to protect information and systems. This leads them to the need to implement stronger security measures every day and to achieve this it is fundamental to training and the incorporation of talent”.
The deputy delegate recalled that “cybercrime is not something that happens to others. We are all at risk. That’s why it’s essential to train because the more prepared and prepared we are, the better we can self-protest while helping to create a safer internet.”
Finally, he congratulated all the educational centers and the 4th grade students of the ESO that participates in the “National Cyber League” of the Civil Guard for contributing from the youth to create a safer internet among all, taking advantage of the competition to learn more about cybersecurity, overcome challenges, and also have fun and compete as a team.
The Cyberleague
The Cyberleague was created in 2019 with the aim of contributing to the strengthening of the cybersecurity ecosystem through the training of citizens in this matter. This program underwent a gradual evolution reaching the current point where it is structured in three modalities: Amateur aimed at university students and Vocational Training; Professional aimed at law enforcement and defence agencies as well as private sector companies. And finally, the Pre-Amateur modality that is the one that we present today in the province of A Coruña.
The fifth edition (year 2023) implemented the pre-ameteur modality, for 4th year students of ESO, with a pilot project in the Autonomous Community of Galicia, Castilla la Mancha and Madrid in which nearly 4,000 students and 4th year students of ESO participated.
In the sixth edition (2024), in addition to continuing with the amateur and professional modalities of the security forces, pre-amateur is consolidated, increasing the nine Autonomous Communities in which the students of 4th of the ESO will demonstrate their skills and knowledge. In addition to the Autonomous Communities of the year 2023, this year Cantabria, Castilla y León, Extremadura, Balearic Islands, Canary Islands and Navarre join.
