The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, today highlighted the unprecedented increase in pensions in a meeting she held with the news directive of the Association of Widows of Lugo, highlighting the fulfillment of the progressive increases agreed by the Government in recent years. After receiving the components of the directive in the Subdelegation, they shared some lines of work, valuing the importance of public social protection with measures that are benefiting thousands of pensioners in the province, contributing significantly to the increase in the purchasing power of households.
The deputy delegate said that, currently, more than 112,900 residents of the province of Lugo are receiving pensions, of which 26,777 correspond to widows’ pensions. “This increase, never before achieved by a central government, reflects our commitment to the dignity of retired people and to the social protection of the groups that need it most.”
Since 2018, the average pension in the province of Lugo experienced an increase of 211 euros, while widow’s pensions increased by 141 euros on average. This gradual increase, as a result of the agreement and commitment of the Government, made it possible to strengthen purchasing power and guarantee an improvement in living conditions, with special attention to women, who represent half of the pensioner population and in many cases depend exclusively on widow ' s pensions for their livelihood.
Isabel Rodríguez stressed at this meeting the importance of continuing to bet on the social protection system, stressing that the welfare and economic security of the elderly is a fundamental priority for the Government.
Finally, the deputy delegate laid hand in hand the directive of the new association to work together and reaffirmed her commitment and that of the Government with the pensioners of Lugo and the associations that represent them, listening to their concerns and working together to advance policies that promote equality and well-being for all people.
