The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, traveled today to the city of Pontedeume to preside, together with the mayor Bernardo Fernández, the constitution of the Interinstitutional Coordination Table against Gender Violence in the municipality.
The deputy delegate and the mayor wanted to highlight the commitment of Pontedeume, noting that with the accession to the VioGén protocol and now with the constitution of the table, “Pontedeume makes use of all the tools that the Government makes available to combat gender violence.”
With the constitution of the Mesa de Pontedeume there are already 40 existing in the province, encompassing a total of 50 municipalities. Throughout this year there are 4 constituted tables: Narón, Cedeira, Mancomunidad de Ordes and Pontedeume; shows the commitment of the Government to the fight against gender violence and, also, shows the institutional collaboration in a matter as sensitive as this.
Rivas highlighted as fundamental the collaboration between the administrations and institutions to achieve an egalitarian society and a citizenship aware and sensitized in the matter of gender violence. “From the Government we are committed to working to protect all women against gender violence, and for that we have to work hand in hand: to prevent and detect cases, and of course to give support and combat them”
The deputy delegate said that “we are going to continue working to offer victims and their families all the available resources and the best protection”, in this regard she recalled the importance of municipalities being part of the VioGén system. The closeness of the local police is a great contribution in the joint work of protection of the victims.
Currently in the province of A Coruña there are 2,617 active cases in the VioGén system, women who have some kind of protection from the Security Forces and Corps.
María Rivas thanked Bernardo Fernández for his collaboration in this joint fight against gender violence, since “with this constitution we take another step in favor of a more just and egalitarian society while improving coordination to provide a better service to the victims.”
In this same vein, the subdelegate encouraged all municipalities in the province of A Coruña that have Local Police to join the VioGén System, and recalled that there are already 28 municipalities that are part of this system of protection for victims of gender violence.
The subdelegate highlighted the activities carried out under the State Pact against Gender Violence, as another example of the collaboration between the Government of Spain and the municipalities so that since 2018 Pontedeume received 26,108.43 euros, for training, awareness and prevention actions that are carried out locally and that are very necessary to advance social awareness.
Constitutive session
The Pontedeume coordination table is made up of representatives from all the municipal areas involved in the fight against gender violence. It will have the Councilor for Social Services, Equality and Economy and Finance, with the coordinator of municipal social services, and with the participation of representatives of the 7 educational centers of the city council, the Health Center, the Local Police and Civil Guard, VioGén Unit of the Civil Guard of Ferrol and Violence Unit on Women of the subdelegation of the Government.
