The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, today highlighted the passage of Ramón Gómez Nieto as senior police chief in Galicia during the last two and a half years, in which the National Police Force reached the highest rate of police force in the Community in its history. Pedro Blanco, together with the deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, met today with the head of the National Police in the Community, a few days before he passes to the reserve when he reaches the regulated age.
The delegate recalled the importance of the National Police in Galicia, in which it serves more than 1.2 million Galicians and Galicians residing in the main cities and towns of the Community. And he highlighted the effort made in this year to bring the National Police closer to the citizens through different actions and communication channels adapted to new audiences and programs such as the School Coexistence Master Plan.
Ramon Gómez Nieto was appointed Superior Chief of Police of Galicia on March 12, 2022 the proposal of the Minister of the Interior. That same month he took office at an event held at the Government Delegation in Galicia. In these two and a half years, he participated in important operations such as the one that dismantled a drug trafficking organization by seizing more than seven tons of cocaine in Cambre.
A native of Arquillos (Jaén), he holds a degree in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid. He joined the General Military Academy of Zaragoza in 1979. He obtained the rank of Lieutenant of the National Police Force in 1984 and two years later the rank of inspector. In 1994 he became Chief Inspector, performing various jobs until his promotion to Commissioner in 2008. In 2018 he reached the highest professional level of the National Police after rising to the rank of Chief Commissioner.
In his professional career he assumed different responsibilities in the areas of Citizen Security, Judicial Police, Foreigners and Borders, and in the Training and Improvement Division, among other destinations. Not year 2011 he was appointed provincial commissioner of Segovia. He was later conselleiro de Interior at the Spanish Embassy in India and director of the National Police Refresher and Specialization Center. In these four decades of profession, he achieved several decorations among which stand out Crosses to Police Merit with Red and White Badge, as well as numerous public congratulations.
