The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, visited the headquarters of the UNED in the city of Las Burgas on the occasion of the beginning of the new school year. Accompanied by its director, Jesús Manuel García, the subdelegate toured the facilities and was interested in the various training actions that the National University of Distance Education offers to those from Ourense who, due to their personal or work circumstances, cannot access training through the traditional system.
Through continuous preparation, the UNED offers higher studies in the various branches (sanitary, technical, humanities...). This is a regulated education after which the corresponding university degree is obtained from the Ministry of Education. In addition, specialized teachers guide the study and learning of the student, who also has access to computer classrooms, library, auditorium, courses or specific presentations of the different careers.
During the meeting, the director of the UNED explained to the subdelegate that this is a service that every year increases in the number of students, highlighting in recent times those enrolled in the degrees of Psychology and Law. However, Computer Science, Geography and History, and Philology also attract the attention of Ourense students.
In addition, distance university allows public employees to improve their qualification, “which means an important possibility of professional promotion,” recalled Eladio Santos.
UNED also offers specialized training courses in tourism, viticulture, agriculture, technology and computer science at its headquarters in Ourense and A Rúa, as well as in other villas. What they show is that it does “a very broad job, beyond university degrees,” said the deputy delegate.
