The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, held a meeting with the Deputy of Finance, Human Resources, and Digital Advancement, José Ramón Rioboo; in which they valued the 1.5 million euros that come from being granted to the Provincial Council of A Coruña, for the digital transformation and modernization of the management systems of the municipal register in the local entities, within the framework of the Plan of Recovery, Transformation and Resistance.
According to what was published on the 24th in the Official State Gazette, the County Council of A Coruña obtains this aid within a call that leaves in Galicia, 4,020,000 euros, to carry out the project “Towards the online register: new model of territorial information management in the province”.
Both stressed that the municipal register is a register of great importance, since registration in it is the prerequisite and essential for people to have access, with all guarantees, to the use of public services of education, health and social services in a municipality, and to the exercise of the right to vote, among other aspects.
For this reason, “it must be provided with a fast, agile and guaranteed data management and updating system, in order to allow citizens to access all the services of the municipality where they reside, and to minimize the risks arising from incorrect registration”. Therefore, “the modernization of the register will also affect the better elaboration of public policies such as those related to taxation, social services or rehabilitation aid, in such a way that once again the Government puts in the center the attention to the people, in this case, especially those who live in the municipalities of less than 20,000 inhabitants,” said the subdelegate.
For his part, the Deputy of Finance, José Ramón Rioboo, indicated that the aid achieved is part of the Digital Strategy of the Provincial Council of A Coruña, which has as a priority the implementation of a totally digital Administration adapted to the Local Entities, placing the citizens at the center of the administrative activity, through more and better interactive services that speed up the administrative procedures and guarantee the efficiency of the digital administration at the local level.
The investment of 1.5 Me will serve to address the digital transformation process that allows the municipalities of the province to improve and update their municipal registers according to the parameters defined by the National Institute of Statistics. On the other hand, it will implement technological systems that allow the instant updating of information in the population register. Such real-time updating can expose important risks, so the participation of the Diputación de A Coruña will guarantee the necessary infrastructure to ensure the protection and confidentiality of data during the updating process.
Through this help of the Recovery Plan, the County Council of A Coruña will offer advice and support to implement the project in the most efficient way possible, especially to municipalities with less than 20,000 inhabitants, who lack the capacity to implement the register online with their own resources.
