The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, presided together with the mayor of Pontedeume, Bernardo Fernández Piñeiro, the meeting of the Local Security Board where they reviewed the security device for the summer festivities, and in which they highlighted the collaboration and coordination between the State Security Forces and the Local Police.
Among the events that will gather the most influx are the Medieval Fair, for which the subdelegate committed the collaboration indicating that “we are going to reinforce the device with the presence of the Citizen Security Unit, Civil Traffic Guard to support on roads, and civilian units for patrolling. With this support we want to respond to the demand that is made from the city council”
A Subdelegada also wanted to make an appeal to respect at all times the recommendations of the authorities so that the parties are a guarantee of fun, but also of security and among all of us we contribute to avoid any incident in those events that bring together a greater number of people.
Citizen security
Another point of the meeting was the assessment of the citizen security data of the city council, where it should be noted that the crime rate is 24.2 crimes per 1000 inhabitants, 13 points below the provincial average that is 37.5 and less than half of the state average that is 51.2.
In this regard, the deputy delegate and the mayor agreed to point out that Pontedeume is a safe town hall, to which the existing collaboration between the Local Police and the Civil Guard undoubtedly contributes.
VioGén system
During her speech to subdelegada, she encouraged the city council to continue with the collaboration through the VioGén system for the protection of victims of gender violence. Pontedeume is one of the municipalities that recently joined in the province, where there are already 23 fully adhered to the VioGén system being 8 more in the process of accession.
Thus, he pointed out that for the Government it is fundamental to the collaboration of the municipalities because it is the institution most attached to the territory and with greater proximity to the victims.
The deputy delegate stressed that today we have 2,404 active cases in the province, “the Government is focused on working tirelessly to protect each of the women who are within the VioGén system, they are 2,404 reasons to redouble our commitment every day.” He also appealed not to turn his back on violent and sexist behaviour, but to denounce it.
The subdelegate indicated that we have measures such as the Pact of State, of which the city of Pontedeume is beneficiary with a contribution of 14,774.40 euros since 2018, which allowed it to develop policies of equality, actions of awareness and activities aimed at achieving a more egalitarian society and with zero tolerance with male violence.
Finally, he encouraged the city to set up the interinstitutional coordination table against gender violence, which already works in 39 municipalities in the province, an additional tool to continue working on prevention and awareness-raising, also incorporating the educational community and other local entities.
