The Government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, stressed from the new headquarters of Ternera Gallega, in Santiago, the commitment that the Government has with the more than 50,000 livestock farms that form the sector in Galicia, of which 28,000 are of bovine type. The event was attended by the president of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda; the president of the Regulatory Council of the IGP Ternera Gallega, Jesús González; the founding president of this same entity, Maximino Viaño, and the subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, among others.
Pedro Blanco highlighted the importance of the sector within the Galician economy, as well as the involvement of the Government to keep it that way. “We are working day after day and without rest on such useful actions as simplifying the CAP, strengthening the application of the Food Chain Law or supporting animal health and extensive livestock farming,” said the delegate. Blanco took the opportunity to remember difficult moments that were overcome thanks to the work of the sector with the Government, “such as the Covid crisis, the drought or the war in Ukraine”.
The delegate stressed the collaboration between institutions, “because this is a joint work in which all administrations are involved, looking for the good of our productive sectors and, on a day like today, we show our pride in having entities such as Ternera Gallega, a symbol of success and reflection of what we want the field to be in Galicia”.
He recalled that the sector has the Government of Spain on its side to face challenges such as the generational change or the modernization of production. “The government is focused on facilitating the sector’s relationship with the Public Administration, innovation and digitalization.” The delegate took the opportunity to make it clear that the Government “wants our rural to be an attractive space to live and to develop an economic activity, ensuring a good future for both the sector and the rural Galician”.
Pedro Blanco congratulated the IGP Ternera Gallega for this step forward towards the future that represents the new inaugurated headquarters and also for representing “the best of our gastronomy without neglecting sustainability”. The delegate stressed the prestige of the Ternera Gallega label, “which identifies a quality that, although it seems impossible, increases year after year and of which all Galicians and Galicians feel very proud.”
