The subdelegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, informed today in the Fonsagrada of the beginning of the Campaign “No Caminas Sola”, for a Camino de Santiago free of machista violence, with 389 points of the Xacobea route as it passes through the province of Lugo. This program promoted by the units against violence against women of the autonomous communities through which the Camino de Santiago passes serves to reinforce the protection of pilgrims by providing resources and materials that guarantee their freedom throughout their journey. Isabel Rodríguez presented this morning on initiative with the mayor, Carlos López, and the head of the Unit against violence against women of the Government Subdelegation, María Luisa Castro.
Women already represent 53% of the people who make the way (more than 230,000 did it in the last year) so the subdelegate stressed that “they are being the protagonists of these pilgrimage paths”, assuring that “year after year their presence will go more, either with or without company”. The objective of this campaign is to “ensure that pilgrims freely make the way, so that women occupy the spaces without any kind of danger or limitation”.
The subdelegate explained that the campaign seeks to facilitate access to all resources and to raise awareness, prevent and report violence against women. With this objective, a specific material was prepared, which was distributed in the main points of reference for pilgrims. In the province of Lugo, 389 posters and 7,780 cards are distributed, published in Spanish and English. No case of A Fonsagrada, the pilgrims will have as information points the post of the Civil Guard, the Local Police, 2 pharmacies, 5 hostels, the health center and the tourist office.
The cards include information about emergencies and State Security Forces and Bodies, as well as the AlertCops application, to communicate in real time any alert with location sending. In addition, a QR code links to a web of government resources to meet any need through the Government Delegation for Gender Violence, of the Ministry of Equality.
