The Government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, presided today the meeting that sets in motion the logistical planning of the Government Delegation for the elections to the European Parliament on June 9.
The delegate recalled that the General Administration of the State has assigned two specific functions in this electoral process. On the one hand, to provide the necessary logistical support for the exercise of the vote, including the security of the entire process and, on the other, to transmit the data of participation and scrutiny on the same day of the elections. This task is reflected in the budget that is destined in Galicia for its organization and that is above 4.6 million euros.
At the meeting, the Secretary General of the Government Delegation, Alberto de la Fuente, detailed the main figures of this electoral meeting, in which 2,702,442 Galicians and Galicians will be able to participate, of which 109,690 will do so for the first time in a European elections having reached the age of majority in the time since the last meeting of this electoral process. Of the total, 7,459 are citizens of the European Union residing in Galicia and 480,221 represent Galicians and Galicians living outside the Spanish borders. These people will receive at home the necessary documentation to deposit the vote, either in the premises authorized in the destination countries or by certified mail.
These elections will decide a total of 720 deputies at European level, of which Spain elects 61. In the elections to the European Parliament there is a single constituency at national level, unlike the autonomous or general ones, in which the provinces are the ones that mark the territorial divisions. In this way, there is only a single list of candidates for the whole of Spain.
Regarding logistics, the government delegate stressed that Galicia will have 3,922 tables distributed in 2,337 electoral venues. About 4,000 ballot boxes and 3,098 booths will be available to choose the ballot papers. In total, 84 million ballot papers will be printed.
These tables will be attended by 11,766 table members, for which more than 35,000 people will be selected during this week between headlines and alternates. 2,548 representatives of the Administration will be responsible for verifying the correct opening of the tables, resolving incidents and collecting the data of participation and the vote count. In addition, during the day of the elections, at the headquarters of the Government Delegation and in the subdelegations there will be personnel authorized to resolve any incident that may arise with the representatives, the constitution of the tables or the material, in collaboration with the Electoral Boards. In total, more than 300 workers of the Delegation and subdelegations participate in the correct development of this process.
Security device
Pedro Blanco meant the important deployment of security personnel to guarantee the free exercise of the right to vote. This staff will be located in the voting centers, their accesses and other points of interest of the day. The forecast indicates that 7,101 security personnel, including National Police, Civil Guard and Local Police, will integrate this device.
The delegate thanked all these professional people, guarantors of public security, for their effort and work, as well as words of gratitude for all the volunteers of the administration and citizens who will be part of the voting tables, responsible for ensuring that the electoral day progresses normally and that the right to vote is guaranteed.
