Pedro Blanco points out that the Government of Pedro Sánchez “gave back the smile” to Ferrol with projects to consolidate and promote its revitalization

The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, said today that the government of Pedro Sánchez “gave back the smile” to the city of Ferrol with projects to consolidate and promote the process of revitalization of Ferrol. He claimed this today in his participation in the series “Conversas no Parador”, organized by the Press Club of Ferrol.

In front of a group of journalists and different representatives of the city, Pedro Blanco claimed the work developed in recent years, “which we started with the previous municipal government and which continues with the current team”, and of which “today we are reaping the first fruits”, such as the fact that “for the first time in decades Ferrol grows in population”, as indicated by the provisional data of the INE.

The delegate explained that this bet translates into a commitment of more than 5,000 million euros of investments that is not equal in other cities of Galicia: “We trust Ferrol so much that it is the Galician city in which the Government of Spain commits and executes greater investments, above A Coruña or Vigo”.

Projects and commitments under way

In his speech, the delegate outlined the projects developed by the Government in Ferrol that promote the industrial sector and the economy, communications, urban layout, housing and public facilities.

He began analysing the impact of the contract for the F-110 Frigates and the modernization of the Navantia shipyard with the block workshop as the most relevant investment. These actions, along with the contract for the construction of a new AOR supply ship for the Navy committed before the end of the year, will ensure that “Ferrol is once again what it should never have been, the heart of Europe’s defence shipbuilding”.

Continuing with the infrastructure, the delegate detailed work for the reform of the avenue of As Pías and the suppression “of the barrier that separated entire neighborhoods of Ferrol and that was the main demand of this city in decades.” The delegate highlighted the effort to agree each advance of the works with the City Council and with the neighborhood, and the increase of the budget “by 20% to exceed 11 million euros to accommodate precisely the different improvements”.

In the railway field, Pedro Blanco advanced the end of the writing of the informative study of the baipás of Betanzos, in the improvement of the conventional line between Ferrol and A Coruña. He reported on the 22 million euros invested by Adif in the last two years in the region of Ferrol for the modernization of the metric wide network that connects the city with the rest of northern Galicia and Spain.

Housing and urbanism

Regarding housing, the delegate recalled the Government of Pedro Sánchez’s commitment to the right of access to housing and rehabilitation, which also translates into investments for the city of Ferrol. “In Ferrol we invest almost 10 million euros to rehabilitate more than 600 homes and build 61 homes for social rent, mainly in two buildings in the neighborhood of O Bertón,” explained the delegate.

Along with housing, the delegate emphasized the urban transformation of Ferrol, which is also made possible by the Government, in this case through agreements with the Ministry of Defense. On the one hand, through the land transfer agreement, which will make possible “a new neighborhood in the center of Ferrol, thanks to the transfer of the Sánchez Aguilera”. This old demand, united the commitment announced by the Minister of Defense and that will facilitate the downsizing of the Arsenal wall, improving the urban permeability of the environment of this infrastructure.

The delegate concluded his speech by betting on “Ferrol that smiles and looks to the future with optimism” and appealing to the unit of administrations, economic sector and civil society to “continue advancing in the development of these projects, ensure that these actions give the desired result, and achieve new investments for Ferrol”.
